Markus:
~Flashback:
"I—I'm flying to Chicago next week."
My brows furrow in a daze from Chris' words. I don't know, but his words bewildered me.
"You're— You're what?"
He puffed a sigh and stood his face. He turns around and gazes outside the big glass walls of the lounge.
"Uncle George offered me this Apprenticeship course to work under his company years ago. He's been offering me this course even before I entered University. But I keep refusing it since I don't want to live that far away from my Mum. The more I think of that offer, the more I realised that a permanent job is waiting for me once I finished this course."
The bewildering feeling continues to baffle me while heeding Chris' words.
"I-I'm sorry Chris but, I couldn't comprehend the stuff you're saying."
Deafening silence surrounds us for a while. His sighs turn deeper while he stoops his face down. His breathing becomes way different from before; sniffing in between while trying to hold his composure.
"Could you please—could you please, take care of, of Mhairi?"
I maintain my gaze at him in shock from what he uttered. I mean, why did he suddenly come up with the thought of leaving Mhairi to me?
"Chris, I—I don't understand—"
He turns and looks at me; his tears are constantly streaming down while the melancholy is peeping from the corner of his eyes.
"We've been so nasty to each other for long just to win her love. You even tried to, to take her away from me when her memories took a huge leap that made her remember me as her only wee brother and not as the man she loves all her life. We've—we've been in this constant battle of trying to win her over, to see who really owns her love and heart."
"Chris..."
He heaves a huge breath to prevent him from sobbing. He even looks up the ceiling to avoid his tears from streaming continuously.
"I love her, Markus." He continued. "I love her so, so much that no words could describe how much I love her. Everyone knows that I've been waiting for her all my life. Ten, long years was not enough to let her know how much I love and adore her. I-I love her, yes. But our love has caused so much pain from the people who love us unconditionally without asking in return."
He paused for a bit while stooping his face down. His tears never stop streaming down from his sullen gaze.
"Our love hurt the most important people in our life unbeknownst to us. My love for Mhairi hurt the only best friend that I have. This intense love I feel for Mhairi has been hurting Bella all along—and this same feeling has been causing you so much pain the most. We were so engrossed with this love we didn't realise that we're hurting you and Bella all along."
"But you're not, Chris," I uttered while my tears are now rumbling down from my eyes. "You and Mhairi didn't hurt us in purpose. You—You were in love and loving each other before we entered in your lives, and you utterly know that."
