Chris:
My body froze while my heart immediately raced, exacerbating the sudden heat on my cheeks from Ate Mhairi's sudden move.
Calm your trousers down, Chris. Wake her up again and see if she responds.
I gulped and puffed a discreet sigh to clear my throat and tried to wake her again.
"A-Ate? A-Ate Mhairi?"
The crisp, chilly breeze blows onto us instead while heeding the soothing rustle of the leaves from the nearby woods. It brushes against my arms and cheeks, making me feel the wind's absolute chilliness all over my body.
F***! What to do now, Chrissy dude? She'll catch a cold if you don't make a move! Do something to wake her up now!
I heave a deep sigh while gathering all my guts not to make her feel my racing heartbeat.
"A-Ate Mhairi?" I mumbled again in a hushed tone. "We really have to go inside quick. It's not good for us to stay here any longer. You're not wearing any hoodies or sweaters, you know."
She gingerly moves much closer to my chest instead of responding. She pulls me to her front while clinging her arm around my waist. Her sudden move exacerbates the pulsating beats of my heart that quickly weakens all my senses. It's like I'm under this indescribable spell that leaves me beyond helpless and numb from this enthralling effect she's giving me.
I need to get going, or she'll definitely catch the flu if I don't do something!
I gingerly grab her arm to try and lift it away from my waist. But it looks like she felt what I was doing by curling herself much closer while resting her face on my chest. She even tightened her grip on my waist to restrict me from my future move.
"Please..." She paused for a bit and mumbled again. "Please, don't move."
I crouch my head and gaze at her. She's still asleep as she mumbled those words in her sleep. My heart is overtly celebrating our situation's drastic shift, urging me that I shouldn't push her away and pull her much closer to me instead;
Closer to my longing, stubborn heart.
No. T-This is wrong, Chris.
You've already set aside your feelings for her, right? You've already made a pact with yourself that you won't let your love for her overtake your senses, yeah?
"W-We have to go now, Ate," I utter in a bleak yet, nonchalant tone.
I tried to grab her arm for the umpteenth time from my waist. She mumbled again before I could lift it away.
"D-Don't, don't go away, Chris. Stay with, with your Ate Mhairi."
I looked down again and gazed at her beautiful face. Her breathing is so deep this time from a while ago. My mind still urges me to do the right thing, but my undying love for her finally failed me. I gradually close the gap between us and put my arm around her as she rests her face and body more on my chest and my body. Her move made me leave all the apprehensions and affirmations at the back of my head while feeling my heart's slow yet euphoric, melodic beats. Ate Mhairi's serene, riveting heartbeat entwines with mine that reverberates together with the light breeze.
~Flashback~
"Ate Mhairi? Ate?"
I paused for a bit while waiting for her response. I knocked on her bedroom door once again – still no answer. I puffed a sigh and frowned a bit while wondering why she was not responding. I've decided to drop by today since she didn't babysit me or haven't been into the house lately. Mum gave me a lift as soon as I told her I wanted to see Ate Mhairi because I hadn't seen her for a week.
