"He couldn't undo the past. But he could choose what he did with the person standing in front of him now."

Katherine's eyes fluttered open.
For several seconds, she didn't understand where she was.
There was no pain.
That was the first thing she noticed.
No screaming.
No explosions.
No crushing weight in her chest.
No burning sensation behind her eyes.
Nothing.
She slowly lifted her hands towards her face, shielding her eyes instinctively as an almost unbearable brightness surrounded her.
But there was nowhere to hide from it.
The entire room was white.
The floor.
The walls.
The ceiling.
Everything.
There were no windows.
No doors.
No shadows.
No furniture.
Just an endless, almost peaceful whiteness stretching in every direction.
Katherine slowly lowered her hands.
Her confusion gradually gave way to something else.
Recognition.
Not of the place itself.
Of what it meant.
A small smile appeared on her face.
"Hey, kid."
The familiar voice came from behind her.
Katherine turned.
And stopped.
Tonks stood several feet away.
Her arms were folded loosely across her chest, her purple hair tucked behind her ears in the same slightly messy way Katherine remembered.
There was no blood.
No exhaustion.
No battlefield.
No fear.
Just Tonks.
Smiling.
Katherine's expression immediately crumpled with relief.
"Tonks."
She ran towards her.
Tonks opened her arms before Katherine even reached her, catching her in a warm embrace.
Katherine laughed.
Actually laughed.
The sound seemed strange after everything she'd endured.
She wrapped her arms tightly around Tonks and buried her face against her shoulder.
For the first time in what felt like an eternity, she felt safe.
"I was hoping I'd see you again."
Tonks chuckled softly.
"I knew you would."
