Chapter 2

Lily's POV

It's been a week since the first day of school. I can't say that school is heaven or a dream but I can't say its hell either. What I can say is that it's a hell lot better than my old school. There are people I talk to in every class, I have some of their numbers but I really wouldn't consider them friends. None of us have talked outside of school.  The only people I actually talk to outside of school are Skylar, Savannah, and Jake. I know, I know, I probably shouldn't be talking to Savannah. But she's been so nice to me. I don't know what to think of Jake. He's really flirty and I don't know if that's just his personality or if I'm just special. Probably the first.

I try not to think about it that much as I walk to school on the second Monday of the school year. The air was cool and the slight breeze pushed my hair behind me. I was nervous, not gonna lie. I didn't know how to take this whole friendship with the 'bitch clique' as Skylar calls it. I walked into the parking lot and saw a bunch of kids walking inside. But sitting outside like there was no time scheduled were the inhabitants of my mind.

"Hey, Lily! Come over here!" Zia called out. I looked up and smiled towards them, switching my direction from the front door to the group.

"Hey guys." I said when I walked over. They all shared sideways glances with each other. My nerves ran tight as I heard Skylar's voice ringing back and forth in my head. They're mean, manipulative.

"Were gonna go inside, but we'll see you in class." Savannah said and they all rushed past me. My heart sank and I couldn't help but wonder. Why would they call me over here just to run away? I was about to walk inside when someone grabbed my wrist. I flinched and instinctively pulled it back towards me, out of the persons grasp. My wrists slightly burned from the grasp and pull, but I ignored it and spun around to the culprit. It was Jake.

"Hey." He said with a smile. He had a nice smile.

"Hi." I said with a smile, rubbing my wrist.

"I was just wondering Lil, if you wanted to go see a movie or something tomorrow after school?" he said. I nearly gasped.

"Like... a date?" I said. His cheeks turned red.

"Well, if you would like that." He said. I felt on top of the world, and a little courageous.

"I'd love that." I said, surely melting on the inside. Both of our faces burned red as we walked into school, hand in hand.

I didn't know how to tell Skylar that I was most likely dating Jake; she barely wanted me to communicate with them. As we walked into music class together I decided I would tell her after school, and only that we were going to the movies together. I technically wasn't lying. The bell rang, letting everyone that wasn't in their classes know that they would be marked late when they arrived. But all 10 kids had shown up to class today and Mrs. B started.

"Now we all remember the song that we finished memorizing on Friday and hopefully you studied, because today I am randomly quizzing some people on it and it will be counted as a grade." She said. The class sighed and she motioned to a small ceramic bowl she had on her desk filled with little slips of paper. "I will choose a name form this bowl and then the person will come and play the song. Simple." She said and swirled her hand in the bowl. I silently prayed that it wouldn't be me. I knew the song but I didn't want to go and perform it in front of everyone. My mind is too clouded.

"Tony Perry." She said. I knew who this kid was, but I never paid much attention to him. He seemed like a burnout, though I know not to judge people by how they look. He has shaggy dark hair that he always wore some sort of hat with and snakebite lip studs. He wore skinny jeans and rock band tee shirts, which I don't mind. Some of the bands I actually like. He seemed cool but I don't even think he's looked in my direction. He got up and headed for the stage. He picked up the guitar and Mrs. B whispered something to him. He nodded and started to play.

It wasn't the song that we memorized. Well, it sounded like it, but a much more complicated and more magnificent version. It was astounding and went on for the same length as the piece that I have memorized, about a minute, and he stopped. I was amazed. He was astounding at guitar. Everyone clapped and he smiled. Mrs. B had a great big smile on her face. Tony returned to his seat next to me and as the claps died down she went on to explain the piece and why Tony had performed it. While she was I turned to him.

"You're insanely good." I said. He smiled and looked at me.

"Thanks. Lily right?" he said. I nodded as we went on to talk about the piece until Mrs. B shushed us. We both exchanged a smile and he then slipped me a piece of paper when the teacher wasn't looking. It was his phone number. I think it was a little quick to give someone your phone number, but I gave him mine back. It's almost freaky how opposite this is from my old school, and I couldn't love it more.
