Clay's POV
Does George hate me now? Damnit. He's never gonna trust me. He's never gonna want to be my friend now! Fuck you dad this all your- No....this is my fault. I could have found a way to reach out to Sapnap. I should have tried harder. But I didn't.
The wind was picking up now and it made the car rattle with each ferocious gust. The sky had started to darken, fitting the mood of the events that had just unfolded. Clay stared out the window once again, fighting the urge to look at George.
Why. Why does the first friend I make since coming back have to be best friends with the last friend I had before leaving. And why does he have to be so....so....ugh.
The car ride was silent for quite awhile before someone finally sliced through the air with the sound of their voice.
"Can we um at least turn on the radio?" The voice came from the boy sat beside Clay in the backseat. Clay turned his head to face him hoping to be able to stare at him for just a moment. To be able to take in the existence of the 5'8 brown haired British boy's existence while he still could. After all, who knew if George would ever want to talk to him again after this.
"Sure, I guess. But we are playing MY music not your weird shit." Sapnap answered as he reached his right hand over and switched the radio on. An Eminem song blared through the speakers of the car.
After about ten more minutes of driving, the three boys reaches the corner where Clay had instructed Sapnap to drop him off. Clay grabbed his school bag from where his feet were planted and placed it on the seat beside him to make sure all the pockets were completely zipped and sealed. Protecting whatever school crap he had shoved in there from only three periods of a single school day. Clay's bag was an average black colored backpack with a small white smile on the front pouch, so small it was barely noticeable. To be honest, it was quite a boring backpack. The material wasn't very durable either, but he was only going for a year so there was no need to buy a nicer one.
I don't wanna go. I hate being all alone at home and as awkward as it is being here at least I'm around people. I'm sick of sitting in the silence once filled by the sound of my mother's laughter. But she's gone now, and only I know. If anyone else knew, my father could find me. I can put up with the emptiness and the silence as long as he doesn't ever become the one to fill it.
"Thank you for the ride Sapnap, it means a lot."
"Yep"
Clay grabbed the handle of the car door. He wanted to turn back and say bye to George but he couldn't bring himself to. Who knew what George's opinion of him was now. As dream pushed the door open with a reluctant and weak shove, a voice stopped him.
"Ugh what the hell. Clay wait" Sapnap spoke at a quieter level this time as if he could barely get out what he was about to say. "Do you wanna just come back with me and George?"
What?
"What?" George spoke. His voice didn't seem like he was disappointed though, it seemed more like he had a feeling of excitement behind his remark.
Sapnap spoke his next words quickly, "Don't think too much of it, I'm only offering because the wind is gonna be getting ridiculous soon and you shouldn't be walking in this shit. Just because I'm mad at you doesn't mean I want you hurt that's all.....and I'm sure my mom will be happy to see you. She never blamed you."
Clay readjusted into the car's backseat, shutting the door behind him, still in shock.
"Thank you"
"Yep"
Clay glanced over to George and it was completely obvious to him that George was hiding a smile. George must have noticed Clay looking at him because he quickly hid his grin and looked away, rubbing the back of his neck as if that didn't just make him look even more suspicious. That's when Clay thought of an idea, somewhat of a test to see if George still wanted to be friends. As Sapnap started driving Clay opened his bag with a loud zip and pulled out a lime green pen and a ripped portion of lined paper. After placing his bag back at his feet, He started to write on the paper using his knee as a surface.
George's POV
What is he writing?
George looked over at Clay as the boy was writing something down with a determined look in his glistening yellow eyes. Seconds later, a hand slid something towards him on the middle seat. George waited a second to grab whatever the object was, presumably whatever Clay was writing. He slid his hand back onto his lap with a small piece of paper in between his pointer and middle finger. After unfolding it, his eyes read the colored ink.
Here's my number, I just got a phone again and I'd
love for you to be the first person I text :)
Hope you like the lime green color, Figured it would add some flare.

Oh my god. I'm not sure how I thought the rest of the night would go from the moment we got in the car and on but it for sure wasn't me getting Clay's number .
George pulled out his phone from the side of his bag and quickly added a new contact to his phone. He named it Clay:). He then typed out what would be his first of many texts to Clay.
George: Im colorblind btw.
George heard Clay's phone buzz from his pocket and watched as clay grabbed it acting as nonchalantly as possible. Clay's eyes widened when he read the message. In a second Clay had looked up at George and back down to his phone than back up at George than back to his phone. He frantically started typing a response.
Clay: oh my god are you kidding??? I'm so sorry George I didn't mean to offend you!!!
George: Clay, it's okay. Im just messing with you. I am really colorblind though. Thanks for the number, I'll make good use of it:)
Clay: :)
The two boys looked up at each other and smiled, as if everything else happening didn't matter at all because right then, right there, they knew they were at the start of an amazing journey together. Their chemistry, their comfortableness, it all was perfect in this moment. If only this moment could have lasted longer than just a simple car ride. Longer than just a simple text conversation and a handful of eye contact.
