It's Time

Graduation. The day kids dream of their entire lives. The day where the real world comes crashing down on student's shoulders. College, work, moving out, responsibility. There's no running from it now. It's here. Today's the day.

Sapnap. Clay. George.

All three stood outside Sapnap's house wearing blue shining gowns. In front of them stood Sapnap's family. His mom, holding her phone in her hands and aiming the lens towards the three soon to be graduates. His little sister, unaware how big of a day this truly was but still ecstatic to be going to such an important ceremony. His grandma, holding an older fashioned camera that she had owned for decades. His grandpa, standing besides the older women with a bright shinning grin on her face.

The three boys were smiling brightly, both for the camera and themselves. The day they never thought would really arrive was now happening. Sapnap stood in the middle of the other two boys. This made the photos look slightly off based on the strange order of height, but there was a reason for Sapnap being in the center.

Through everything, all these years, it's been Sapnap. Sapnap grew up with Clay, making most his childhood memories flashes of Clay's face. Once Clay disappeared from seemingly all existence, George came along to be by Sap's side. Eventually, they became what they are now. A stolen seat in a boring high school classroom, a hurricane resulting in school being dismissed early, a generous George offering a ride, and a reluctant Sapnap agreeing to do so.

Although some may say without Sapnap the two others would still have met, there's no way to know such a thing. So as it stands, Sapnap is the reason for their unity. Therefore, he's in the middle of the forever remembered pictures taken this day.

The photoshoot came to an end, and the three young men loaded into the freshly cleaned truck. Sapnap slid the keys into the ignition, turning it with no hesitation. He pulled out of the driveway, driving towards the end of an era.

"What kind of music do you thinks appropriate for such an occasion?" Sapnap asked, fiddling with the nobs on the car radio.

"I think none. I think we should just enjoy each others company one more time. Tomorrow me and Clay leave for the cabin, you driving. We're gonna want music for such a long drive and who knows when we will all drive together again, so. No music."

Sapnap and Clay nodded in agreement, and they all sat in the car's worn down seats, absorbing every second of each other's presence.

Names started being read off, going in alphabetical order just as they were sat. Sapnap's name was read off fairly soon as his last name was towards the beginning of his graduation class list. Although he had his name changed to Sapnap in things like yearbooks and attendance lists, his real name would be used for today. It was the law.

"Nick Armstrong"

Sapnap slowly stood from his seat, making his way to the stage. He grabbed the rectangular diploma in his hands, bowing before making his way to the 'graduated' section of the audience.

Next up was Clay. He hated his last name, as it was pronounced block but spelled completely different. Cool to look at, weird to hear or say.

"Clay Blauque"

Clay rose from his seat, looking back at George as he walked to the stage. He felt his eyes tear up. He never thought he would be attending an actual graduation. He was home schooled for so long it just seemed improbable. He took the diploma just as Sapnap had, making his way to sit next to his best friend. Unlike the other section, the graduated one was not in alphabetical order and one could sit wherever they chose. Of course, Sapnap saved the two seats to his right for his best friends.
