The drive to Sapnap's house was much less awkward than the ride to Clay's supposed to be drop off spot. The music was turned down to a lower volume and the three boys were actually speaking to each other more than before. It was mostly Sapnap and George making conversation, talking about stupid things Clay didn't understand. Every now and then though, Clay would join in to crack a joke and George would fall into a fit of laughter that he tried to hide through the sleeve of his shirt which he held over his mouth. Even Sapnap would let loose a small chuckle at Clay's ridiculous jokes. Clay didn't feel left out though. In between his attempts to join the conversation he was texting the boy who got him into this endeavor, and he was enjoying every minute of it.
Eventually they arrived to a decently sized house in a very spaced out neighborhood. The house was a light beige color with shutters that were a medium brown tone. The house was two stories tall and clearly a more modern house.
Clay's POV
This isn't the same house he lived in when we were friends. Well, it is technically but its painted a different color than the off white I once saw every single day in my childhood. They took down the small chained fence they once had to keep in their dog and instead the yard is open now with flowers along the sidewalk. It feels so different. I guess his life changed a lot since than.
Sapnap started to get out of the car but quickly got back in to unlock all the doors so the two others wouldn't have to manually do it. Sapnap gave a glance to George and received a smile back that seemed like a silent 'thank you'. Clay wasn't sure why but decided it probably wasn't important and climbed out of the car, swinging the strap of his bag onto his right shoulder with no effort at all.
"Listen Clay, I didn't think to give my mom a heads up before we got here so she may be a little shocked to see you to say the least. I don't think she will react badly but you never know so" Sapnap added as he walked up the the front door. George directly behind him and Clay following them both, a far enough distance to give him a few extra seconds to prepare himself. Right as Sapnap put his hand on the doorknob that would lead into either an exciting or awkward night, Clay stopped him.
"Are you sure this is a good idea? What if she is mad at me or something..."
"Just shut up and come in, it's fine." Sapnap snapped back without turning around and opened up the door. "MOOOOM! COME HERE I HAVE A SURPRISE"
Clay stood only a few feet into the house. He hadn't taken his shoes off just in case he would have to turn around once reuniting with the women he used to consider a second mother. The sound of weight hitting the wooden stairs started to fill his ears, only to be drowned out by the thumping of his heart rate rising.
"Okay dear what's the surprise you have fo-" She stopped. She looked older than their last encounter as did Clay which made sense considering the days and months and years they had gone without any kind of contact. Sapnap's mom had a beautiful name. Mary. No matter the tone of one's voice it always sounded like honey when someone said it. Mary stood about ten feet in front of him blinking in clear shock at the boy who stood before her. Clay felt his hands get sweaty and quickly shoved them in his pockets as if the material would soak up the sweat forming between his fingers.
"He-Hey Mary. L-Long time n-no see?" Clay was stuttering his words which only made this more of an awkward reunion for him.
After what seemed like an hour to clay but in reality was only about five seconds, Mary ran up to the tall senior and wrapped her arms around him tightly. He was much taller than her now so her head fit into his shoulder with perfect comfort.
