■ 01: Nightmare ■

───── Ki Chul's POV ─────

"No!"  

*BANG*

I open my eyes, jolt to sit up, and clutch onto my chest as I heavily breathe in and out. I reach for my water bottle on my nightstand, and drink a bit to help calm myself down.

'Another nightmare'  I thought to myself.

Yes, I have been getting nightmares at least once a month for the past 5 years, and I can't get rid of it. The thing is, the events are always the same. Everything is dark and blurry, and I can only hear voices saying those 4 statements, then a loud bang.

I just want it to stop, but I can't do anything about it.

I look at the clock, and its 6:00 am. I decided to just use this time to start getting ready for school. I get up, and head towards the bathroom to take a shower before changing into my uniform. I fix my things, making sure I don't leave anything behind.

By now, its 6:45. I go downstairs, and I see my aunt cooking breakfast.

"Oh, good morning, Ki Chul. You're up early" she said when she noticed my presence. 

"I had another nightmare" I replied in a low tone.

"I see. I'll just quickly finish cooking. In the meantime, could you check on Lily? She also needs to get ready for school."

"Ne~" My mood lifted up quickly on my little cousin's name.

Soon enough, the table was filled with smiles from me, my aunt, my uncle, and from Lily. My family. 

After I finished eating, I stood up and brought my plate to the sink. But before I could start washing, my aunt got my attention.

"Ki Chul, just leave it there. I'll do the dishes. I know you want to go to school early."

I smiled and replied, "Thank you, auntie". I quickly grab my bag, bid my goodbyes, and head towards the door.

Its my first day as a senior high student in a new school. I know its weird, but my aunt and uncle used to enroll me in a school outside of our village. I don't know why, but at least they gave me a chance to study in the school just inside the village for my senior years; in BH High.

I finally arrive. Though I'm in an unfamiliar place, I didn't get lost and found the principal's office with the help of the school's guard. But let me tell you, this place is freaking huge! I had time to take a peak around, and I saw a big plain field, a basketball court, and I think I saw a pool down in the basement. Is this a condominium or what?

I finally knock on the principal's office, and stepped inside. He gave me my schedule and a quick orientation. He then introduced me to my homeroom teacher, Mr. Ahn. After a few talks, the bell rang, and my teacher started guiding me to my classroom.

On our way, I saw some students rushing to their classrooms, but some also stopped their tracks and looked at our direction. This is what I hate in being the new student; being stared at.

We finally stopped by a door, and Mr. Ahn told me to wait outside.

"Okay, class. Settle down." I heard him say. "First, welcome to a new school year. You've known each other since the start of high school, but we have a new student today. Please come in" he gestured before I walked in, a little nervous since everyone is looking at me.

"Hi! I'm Kim Ki Chul. I hope we get along with one another" I introduced myself with a smile and a small bow.

"Alright, Ki Chul. You may take the vacant seat next to Ryujin over there" he said before I saw a girl waving her hand at me. I walk over, take my seat, and exchange smiles with her.

"Ryujin, could you also tour Ki Chul around later at break time?"

"Of course"

"Thank you. Now class, since its the first day and this is you homeroom period, I'll give this time to catch up with one another." The class then started cheering as the classroom gets a bit loud.

"So, its nice to meet you, Ki Chul. I'm Shin Ryujin" my seatmate introduced while holding out her hand.

I accepted her handshake and we got to know more about each other. However, everytime I talked to her, a hint of nostalgia hits me.

Why? I have no idea.
