■ 23: run away ■

───── Ki Chul's POV ─────

I happily walk down the peaceful streets of our village while wearing my earphones (just in one ear, stay safe kids). I just came from the Kangs' house, and I am now officially 'Kang Ki Chul'. It still kinda feels weird to me to suddenly change my name, but I guess I could get used to it. I'm not that proud to have a father that's a mafia leader.

My stepdad-- err, I mean my dad (gosh, I still need to get used to calling him that) did offer to give me a ride home, but I told them that I wanted to have a walk since I haven't done that in a while. It was quite a chilly day which I really like. For once, I felt at peace and calm. 

A convenience store came to my sight, and I decided to stop by and buy myself some snacks. I could also buy a bit for Lily and Ria-unnie. I was about to push the door when I saw something through the glass window, making me not go through. 

Surprisingly, it was Beomgyu but...

... he's linking his arms with a girl. She was a bit shorter than him, has black hair that reached below her shoulders, and it was no doubt that she is a beauty with bunny-like features. 

For some reason, I just couldn't move my feet. Its as if I frozen upon looking at them, smiling at each other and laughing over what they should buy. I felt like I shouldn't disturb them. But then, I can't explain the warm and uneasy feeling in my stomach. Its like their were knots getting tighter and tighter. It was unpleasant.

I was just looking at their way, but then suddenly Beomgyu looked up and looked at my way. Our eyes met, making me instantly look away and turn around.

'Leave them alone, Chul'

I walked away from the store. Well, I though I was walking, but later on it turned into a sprint. I don't know exactly where I am going, but it seems like I am in an alleyway right now. I was lost in my thoughts when I suddenly bumped into someone, making that person fall down.

"Oh my, are you okay?? I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking properly" I hastily said while helping them up.

"Its okay, I'm alright." The other, which seemed to be a male, said. For some reason, that voice sounds familiar to me.  We stood there for a few second in silence, which was very awkward for me. I don't like sudden silences like this in conversations. I noticed the other male, whose face is actually covered with a face mask, observing me. That really weirded me out, so I decided to say something.

"uhm... excuse me, but is there anythin- AHHHH!"

Everything happened so fast that it took some time for me to register what was happening. All of the sudden, the guy that I just helped out earlier pulled me by the arm towards him, my back against his chest while his right arm ran across my neck, threatening to choke me. His left arm held a dagger that was pointing towards me. I panicked and kept on whimpering.
