It felt surreal when suddenly everyone around them became quiet, instead looking at Mew and Gulf with big eyes. After all, the actor they actively stanned and supported suddenly appeared in front of them, mostly ignoring them in favour of talking to this unknown guy. Who, they had noticed earlier on, was auditioning for the role of Type. If it hadn't been himself in the situation, Gulf might've laughed as he saw the gears turning in their heads, the fans slowly but surely connecting the dots.
He wanted to ask the phi if his talk with the director and Mame had gone well, before he reminded himself, they weren't close in this universe. He could solemnly wait for the phi to continue talking, a little anxious as he saw Beer glaring at both him, the girl and Mew now.
"What's going on here?" Mew asked, his voice light and inquisitive as if there wasn't some awkward tension in the group. Gulf saw the girl open her mouth and close it again when she realizes she wasn't the one being addressed. His hand fell of Beer's shoulder and he shook his head.
"Nothing, khun phi, we were just talking with some of your fans," he smiled when he said this. Knowing that Mew had approached his fans yet chosen to talk to Gulf out of all of them made his heart beat a little faster and his ears burn.
"I see..." Mew's voice trailed off, eyes finally looking at Beer and the girl with a frown. Gulf knew the phi had probably heard the commotion from afar and came to help, but now he was here, it would be rude of him to scold the fan. Or maybe Mew hadn't heard it at all, and just wanted to greet his fans to realize Gulf was there. Nevertheless, he wanted to help his phi out.
Whatever it was, it brought the nong back to the earlier discussion between Beer and the girl. Technically, the girl was right. Gulf wasn't the perfect 'body-type' for Type. For one, Gulf was just a little taller than Mew himself, which wasn't the perfect selling point. In fact, the Y industry has always been quite fond of their stereotypes.
(Y series...)
But it's the story and right feelings that matter, right?
Suddenly knowing what to say, Gulf walked up to the girl, so he stood between Beer and her. Art pushed Beer a little too the back to make way, eyes wide as she watched her friend.
"In my opinion, Type isn't the 'wifey' because he looks like one. In fact, he's a sportsman from the south, in some ways bigger than Tharn," his voice was calm, but his heart thumped erratically as everyone focused on him as he spoke - even some of the other candidates somehow had gotten word of what's happening – including Mew. "Type is the 'wife' because he loves Tharn, because he loves the Tharn that makes love to him, and so he chooses to be. It isn't a matter of how he looks, what matters is in his heart and how he expressed himself to Tharn."
There was just an instance of silence, that seemed to stretch too long, before the crowd around them burst into excited chatter. The girl was the sole person not talking, instead she bit her lip in anger. There was a slight blush on her cheeks. Gulf looked from her to Mew and back to her. The elder hadn't said anything either, but there was a smile present on his face.
However, it seemed like the girl wasn't ready to give up. "And you think you fit that role?" she asked him, tone challenging. She wasn't going to let her idol go easily, "You think you can love him that way?"
Gulf wasn't sure where she was going with her second question. Was she still talking about the series or was she somehow projecting something onto him that he wasn't aware of? However, deciding that it didn't matter, he nodded.
He could mention how alike he and Type are, how they both like sports and sometimes have a dirty mouth, how they both are from the south. Yet he decided not to. Instead he thought about the character Type. About the broken youngster who had somehow found solace in his gay roommate. How he had given everything of himself and had found love in the other. Maybe in some twisted and weird way, he could see himself in the character of Type. Maybe that's why he wanted to act this so much, not only to be with Mew, but also because he just liked the thought of playing Type.
