It was the first time Gulf visited a recording studio – especially the one his phi used –, yet he quickly accustomed to the foreign environment and equipment as he continued sipping his caramel macchiato. As soon as they'd entered, Gulf had been told to sit down in the corner by the staff. Mew himself had left him with a small apology and entered the booth soon later.
The staff explained everything to Gulf without even being prompted to, and the nong really found himself enjoying the experience. He'd been inside the studios at his old job before, but never really found himself interested in the technical side of everything. However, with Mew being the main actor of it all, the whole affair suddenly felt awfully entrancing.
In between takes, Gulf found himself humming along to the recording, recalling the lyrics and melody of 'Good Day' from the other universe. The staff gave him some surprised looks, others knowing, and the nong couldn't help but feel preen. Even if he did cheat, at least Mew would now smile at him knowingly.
Soon, a break was called in. Gulf's coffee had been long empty, and Mew made a small gesture for him to follow outside to the hallway, where a drink vending machine stood.
"It sounds really good, phi," Gulf couldn't help it and complimented Mew on the way. The elder's mouth pulled upwards in a proud smirk. "I really like the song."
Mew pressed a button on the machine, handing Gulf a bottle of Dr. Drink. The nong let out a snort at that, which resulted in a semi-confused look from the other. Gulfjust shook his head, his inside joke probably wouldn't be funny to the phi.
He grabbed a bottle for himself as well, screwing it open and downing it. "I'm sorry for dragging you along, I imagine it's a bit boring," he said with a cheeky smile. Gulf was quick to disagree.
"I really like seeing you work, don't worry about it. I love seeing you passionate about your singing," Gulf said truthfully.
Another cheeky grin. "Did he love singing as well?" Mew asked after a short moment of contemplation.
Gulf opened his own bottle. He weighed it around in his hands a little before taking a stip. Exactly as he remembered it. "He did, though I don't remember if he was working on anything," Gulf had only heard the songs passing on the radio. Most of them had been released years ago though, back in the beginning of Mew and Gulf's relationship. He couldn't help but wonder...
"To be honest," Mew said after a while of blissful silence, "I'd been working on another one before Good Day, but I can't seem to find the right words." He let out a slightly frustrated sigh. "I almost want to ask about it, but I'm afraid it might ruin it."
Gulf understood, copying the other Mew like that would simply feel like cheating. Also, he knew the phi doubted how alike they were, and Gulf had started to as well.
This Mew was different from the one in his head, for sure.
He decided to approach it subtly, without anything concrete. "What's it about, phi?" He prompted.
Mew suddenly look away, a faraway gaze in his eyes. "Good question. It's just a melody I've been playing around with in my head. I don't have lyrics yet, not really..." He trailed off.
"Want to hum it for me?" Gulf asked, wanting Mew to stop looking so distant. He brushed his hand alongside his arm, reminding him of his presence and proximity.
Without answering, Mew started the first notes of the melody. It took a while before Gulf recognized it, but when he did, his eyes grew large.
It makes sense that khun phi is not finding the lyrics... he thought, cheeks burning. Happiness overtook him like a disease.
