A gleaming portal covered in blue and purple swirls greeted them when they turned around. Cautiously, they approached it, trying to figure out what it was and what it did, when the strength of the vortex pulled Thomas in. The second Thomas vanished through the portal, it sealed; there was no way to reopen it. Magdalena spent days unsuccessfully trying to find a way in to go after him. The only thing left of Thomas was his compass. She took the compass and popped open a secret compartment in it. She put the ruby from her locket into the compass and buried it in the sand. She was too busy crying to notice the ruby was still shining under the full moon, and that it was glowing through the sand.
Magdalena was devastated; having no where else to go she decided to return to Atlantis. Stealing the ruby from the Fountain of Youth, not only cursed Magdalena, but it made her lose her connection to Atlantis. She searched the sea for days trying to find her home, but came up empty. It was the first time a Triton could not find Atlantis.
Without her home, her family, and without Thomas, she broke down; eventually she snapped and took her heartbreak out on the world. She got a new ship and a new crew and turned to a life of terrorizing the sea instead of exploring it. She became the most ruthless pirate that ever lived. Any ship that was unlucky enough to cross her path was never seen again. She pillaged, plundered, and with the help of her powers, destroyed anyone and anything that got in her way. Her new ship, The Sea Witch, became a constant source of fear in the ocean. Magdalena quickly built a name for herself and soon became known as The Pirate Queen.
She hid her loot on the island where the portal was. Every time she went there, she hoped the portal would open up and Thomas could come back to her, but it never happened.
Magdalena was going through life in a daze. She did not care if she lived or died, she was just merely existing through her destruction. Two months after she began her reign of terror she discovered she was with child, and that Thomas was the father. This gave her something to live for. She gave birth to twin girls naming them Marcelline and Marella; the first half human and half Triton children. They had the trademark silver dust under their eyes, though they did not have webbed hands. They also inherited some of their mother's powers; Magdalena did her best to teach them how to wield their magic.
While Magdalena calmed down with the birth of her daughters, she still lived the pirates' life. Marcelline and Marella were well adapted to living on the sea. Marcelline was skilled with blades while Marella's pistol never missed its mark. Her crew only grew stronger with the addition of her daughters and Magdalena was proud of them for the young women they had become.
When they got older Magdalena told the twins about their father. She had not been to the island where Thomas disappeared in seventeen years, and decided it was time Marcelline and Marella saw it too. Magdalena was surprised to find a beautiful and mysterious temple coming out of the water by the island, that had definitely not been there before. Keeping her daughters close they went inside to look around. They were amazed at what they found; the portal was open again, the same blue and purple vortex greeted Magdalena once more. The compass with the ruby hidden inside was now encased in stone next to the portal. Using their magic, Magdalena, Marcelline, and Marella worked at carving the compass out of the rock. Once the compass was in Magdalena's hand, the temple began to crumble; pushing her daughters out of the way of a heavy stone, Magdalena ended up backing right into the portal. The compass fell into the water with the rocks, and the portal sealed once more. Marcelline and Marella ran away from the temple and watched as it slowly sank beneath the waves. Magdalena, the compass, and the temple were never seen again.
Not much is known about what happened next to her daughters, other then they both married. Marcelline ended up with another pirate, William Valdez; while Marella gave up the life of a pirate and settled down in a small England town where she married a man named Benjamin Sinclaire.
According to an inscription found on a stone tablet on the island, the curse over Magdalena's family can be broken, but it takes two descendants, masters of time, to come together in order to achieve it:
Fate can change
Lesson learned
What was stolen
Must be returned
Master of time
Centuries apart
Not by distance
But by heart
When the sun sleeps
And the moon plays
Atlantis will rise above the waves
And the Fountain of Youth will glow gold in color
A future descendant can stay forever
