You can't believe what you are seeing. Magdalena's story is one of the most incredible and heartbreaking things you've ever read.
The Tritons made their home on an island called Atlantis. It is believed that their source of life and power came from the Fountain of Youth. This attracted many sailors who were after it for their own greedy purposes. For that reason the Tritons hid Atlantis beneath the seas; it is said that Atlantis can not be found on any maps, and only a true descendant of a Triton could have any hope of finding the island. Tritons looked human except for the webbed hands and silver dust under their eyes.
Magdalena's father was a fair and respected chief. He was loved by his people and made sure they were always taken care of. However he hated humans and this is what caused a conflict with his daughter. Magdalena did not think all humans were evil and thought it was possible to live in peace together. She tried to make her people understand, but to no avail. Deep down in her heart she believed kindness, understanding, and acceptance would be able to combine the two races. This seemed like an impossible task due to the fact that the number one rule in Triton society was that Tritons can only marry other Tritons. This was a law that every Triton had no problem following, except for Magdalena because she did the unimaginable; she fell in love with a human.
One night while Magdalena was patrolling the waters hiding Atlantis, she saw a ship approaching. She used her magic to control the waves to carry her over towards the ship, then blended into the water so she could hear what they were saying. They appeared to be explorers, being paid by the Crown to try to find more territories; they weren't after Atlantis or the Fountain of Youth at all. Leading the expedition was a man named Thomas Kinson. Magdalena was intrigued by this man. Before she could do anything, a nasty storm appeared. Fearing for his safety Magdalena once again called to the powers of the sea and had the waves guide the ship away from the storm into the closest port- Burvis Pier.
Covering her webbed hands with gloves, Magdalena went into the port town as well, trying to find Thomas. She found him and his crew in the local tavern; he was sitting at the bar. She approached the bar and took the empty seat next to him. He took one look at her and that was it. They spent the whole night talking and laughing- both of them realizing they never felt this way with anyone else. Every night Magdalena snuck away from Atlantis and met Thomas. They continued this secret relationship for months, before Magdalena told him the truth about who she was. Thomas did not care; like she suspected he fell in love with her for her, he was not after her powers or her home. Thomas surprised her even more when he asked her to be his wife. Magdalena realized this could be the way to show her people that some humans have good hearts. If the chief's daughter could trust a human, then why couldn't the other Tritons? Unfortunately that did not go according to plan.
