Chapter 27

Annabeth

I woke up feeling uneasy, I don't know why. I double checked my planner, thinking maybe I misremembered when a test was.

Nope, no tests this week other than AP Bio, which I was pretty prepared for considering how I studied for the one I made up last Friday.

I missed Percy's text last night. I had permanently put my notifications on Do Not Disturb, so I wouldn't run into anymore altercations with Percy seeing something from Luke. I felt bad when I did it, but it was for the best.

Thats what I kept telling myself anyway. I wasn't lying to Percy to hurt his feelings, I was lying to cover my own. In the end, it would be best for both of us. So why do I still feel bad about it?

I responded to Percy's meme, a 6/10 this time.

Maybe I was just tired, maybe all the lying and pretending and homework was finally getting to me...

I felt overwhelmed, that much I could figure out.

Piper beamed at me when I got in the car.

"One more day! Well, two more school days, but only, like, 30 more hours until we party!!"She exclaimed.

"How are you this perky this early in the morning?" I asked her.

"You know I love a party." Piper responded, putting the car into drive. "Hey, you look like a wreck, by the way." She said blatantly.

"Gee, thanks." I grumbled.

"I'm serious, Annabeth." At a stoplight she turned to study me "You look like a zombie. Are you alright?" She asked, concern flooding her features.

It was the same question my stepmom asked me before I left. I turned away from Piper.

"It's a green light." I told her simply.

She sped up, but barely turned her head away.

"I'm fine" I told her, the same answer I gave earlier this morning. I was just tired, I hadn't been gettin to sleep early enough, I was feeling anxious too...I just couldn't put my finger on why. 

"You should talk to me more. I know you've already got a best friend... but you need a gal pal." she explained.

I shifted, I had been pulling away from her and Hazel. I haven't even talked to Thalia very much lately... and with Percy spending more and more time with Rachel, I was feeling lonely.

"I know. I told Hazel we should all get ready for the party together, is that cool with you?"I knew this proposition would distract her from my zombie-ness.

She grinned "Yes! Ugh, I cannot wait for this day to be over. I'm so excited." Piper gushed.

I didn't know how I was going to make it through Friday, I was going to have to double check on my reinforcements.

Before first period started, I texted Nico.

A: could use a scapegoat tomorrow

N: what time?

A: before the party, any chance you could have some sort of emergency that only I could help with?

N: about the party...  are you sure i have to go?

A: Nico! I'll need you most then.

N: fine, you either get me before the party, or during, you pick.

I contemplated that. I figured I could maybe make it through girl time, but I definitely couldn't make it throughout the whole party.
