Annabeth
I knew something was different on Monday morning when I got into Piper's car, but I couldn't tell what.
"What's going on?" I asked Piper, who was gripping the steering wheel so hard her knuckles were white, not looking at me and suppressing a smile.
"Yeah what's going on?" A voice in the backseat popped over my shoulder, terrifying me for a second.
I jumped away, my back towards the door, making a surprised yelp as I did.
When I realized it was only Hazel, and as she and Piper giggled theirs heads off at my reaction, I regained my composure.
"You guys are the worst." I joked.
Piper just kept laughing as she put the car in drive. "I knew we were going to scare you I just had no idea it would be that funny." She said, wiping a tear out of her eye.
"Yeah ha-ha, terrify Annabeth before eight am that sounds like a good idea." I said sarcastically.
"Relax sleepy girl, we're stopping for coffee." Piper said, turning down the volume of the music as she stopped at a stop sign.
"Pipes we've only got like fifteen minutes, are we going to be late?" Hazel asked from the backseat.
Piper turned her head towards the backseat, "Say we are late, what's the worst that could happen?"
Hazel's eyes wandered towards the ground "I mean, I guess I already lost out on my perfect attendance when I got the flu last month." She mumbled, clearly not sold on the idea of skipping but not entirely shooting it down either.
Piper's grin could have been seen from the moon.
"What do you say, Chase?" Her smile and twinkling eyes only challenged me. I thought about it. I was ahead in calculus homework, and I could always get the notes from Miranda Gardiner.
Besides, I had skipped breakfast. It would be irresponsible to go to school on an empty stomach, right?
The only reason to not skip that I could think of was my father. If he found out it would kill my chances of going to Rome
I had an idea.
"Alright, but we have to be back before second period." I told them. "They'll call our parents if we're any later." I told them sternly.
Piper hummed with delight, making a turn into the drive thru for coffee. The rush of skipping first period skyrocketed my mood, every kid needs some healthy rebellion... besides, I really wasn't in the mood for calculus today.
Hazel went wide eyed "You're saying yes?! The only reason I said yes was because I knew you'd say no!" She squealed out.
Piper was cackling, dancing in her seat and celebrating her silly little win. "No take backsies! You both said yes!!" She hollered excitedly, pulling forward following the car ahead of her.
"Oi vey" Hazel whined in the backseat. "Why didn't I just ride with Nico this morning?" She said, leaning her head on the back of the seat rest.
"Yeah, why didn't you?" I asked her. Piper would have had to wake up an extra ten or so minutes earlier just to grab Hazel before she came to me. And judging by Piper's sweatpants and t shirt combo, she probably didn't give herself enough time to get ready this morning. That was the thing about Piper though, she was one of those girls that looked good in anything.
Hazel sat up, leaning forward in between Piper and I's seats. "Piper's got something to tell us. She told me she'd pick me up." She explained.
I eyeballed Piper, "And suddenly Piper doesn't know how to use facetime? what's so important you had to tell us in person?"
