Reyna was the captain for the girls team, while Will Solace was the captain of the boys team. He was a senior, and since he was graduating, pretty soon a new team captain would be chosen. I didn't want to jinx things, and I knew Jason would be a great leader, but I couldn't help but wonder if I could be captain next year...

I tried not to think so much about it. Swim practice was great because it felt so far away from all my other problems. I loved swimming, I loved my team.

I caught up with Will after I finished our drills.
"Hey man. We're watching a movie at Piper's tonight. Wanna come?" I asked him in between gulps of my water bottle.

"What time?" He said, looking up from his clipboard.

"7. Do you need the address?" I walked over to the drinking fountain, refilling my bottle.

"Yea text it to me after." I nodded at him and went back to the pool.

Our faculty advisor was Paul, and he would come to some practices, but not all of them. The school had said last summer they were looking to hire a new coach but since none had turned up yet, Will was the closest thing we had.

Too soon it was over, and we headed towards the showers. As much as I loved swimming, I really didn't like the way chlorine made my hair feel. Ever since my mom and Annabeth taught me about leave-in-conditioner and moisturizer, I had been pretty good about taking care of myself.

With clean clothes and a towel around my neck I went to meet up with Annabeth.

Annabeth was sitting at a table in the courtyard when I walked out of practice.

She was always wearing holey jeans and a white t shirt, it was practically her uniform. I think it stemmed from an early on obsession with Jennifer Aniston, and FRIENDS in general, but she always just said it was easy. Although, it didn't really matter what she wore, she always looked good and put together.

I got a familiar warm feeling when she looked up at me.

"Ready?" I asked her. She nodded and grabbed her stuff.

We talked while walking to the parking lot.

"Did ya get your project done?" I asked her.

"No, a lot more left to do if I want the full extra credit."

"Dang, you're not even good at being a nerd." I teased her

"You can't insult me when you look like a wet dog" She gestured to my post swim practice self, I responded by shaking my wet hair on her.

"Stop!" She shrieked, but laughed a little too.

"Now who's the wet dog?" I asked her, climbing into the car.

Everything came easy with Annabeth and I. We had the same taste in music, liked the same TV shows, and made each other laugh.

We talked in the car about how much Leo reminded us of one of our favorite TV characters, but really I kept getting distracted. He looked too good after practice, his shirt still wet and sticking to him just enough, his hair lightly plastered to his neck. He looked too good while he was driving too, his left arm leaning on the window, his right holding the wheel with his bicep flexed. I felt the knot in my stomach tighten, I tried to look away, and failed. I watched his lips as he sung along to the song I picked.

"I love this song." He said right before it picked up, he turned the volume up.

With your hand hanging out the window
Like you're riding a wave
I'm no good at goodbyes
We're always running
Running away
