Percy

I was walking to math with Rachel and she was telling me about how much fun they had at Piper's last night. They had played some board game together and apparently, Nico had won, much to Leo's dismay. I was distracted, but I was trying my best to pay attention to what Rachel was saying.

I had pulled myself together, I decided I had to act normal. I had to wait for Annabeth to talk to me. In the meantime, I couldn't keep torturing myself by worrying about her.

"It was so funny, Leo almost flipped the table he was so distraught." Rachel giggled.

"I like Leo, he's funny." I told her.

Rachel looked down at the floor for a moment before she responded "Yeah, yeah he is."

"But he's seriously a sore loser, and winner actually. He still talks about that game of beer pong, and the time he beat me in catching goldfish." I said.

"I remember." Rachel grinned.

When we got into math, Mrs. Dodds was writing something up on the white board

Ch 7-8 Test TOMORROW!

I groaned, just what I needed, a freakin math test.

"C'mon Mrs. Dodds, do you simply have to torture us?" I asked her across the room as Rachel and I took our seats.

Mrs. Dodds scowled at me "Just because you're some big hotshot in the pool doesn't mean you don't have to do schoolwork." She said sorely.

Sparse giggles filled the class.

"What if I promise you an autograph when Im in the olympics?" I quipped back at her, smirking.

The class laughed again, it felt good to make them happy. If I couldn't make Annabeth happy, well at least I could provide some laughter to my fellow students.

"Watch it, Mr. Jackson." Mrs Dodds responded.

Next to me, Rachel looked at me. "I don't know what you're so worried about, Percy. You've been doing great on the homework, you'll do fine on this test if you study." Rachel said soothingly. She placed her hand on my arm.

It made me feel guilty. The only reason Rachel thought I was doing well was because whenever Rachel called and we did the homework together, it was usually after I had already done the homework with Annabeth. So I would get double the practice and knew the answers before Rachel and I even started the question.

Rachel had even said something yesterday about me doing better on my assignments, but I figured it was best just to let it go rather than tell her the real reason for it.

"You wanna study together? Today after practice?" She asked me.

"Still grounded." I told her.

"Lets just facetime." She shrugged.

I nodded at her, preparing myself for more algebraic torture.

I wished I could ask Annabeth for help with this test... but I knew that wasn't an option at the moment.

_____________

I ate the banana I had in my locker on the way to history, dumping the peel in the trashcan at the front of the class as I walked in. I remembered the day I had forgot to bring a snack and Annabeth had given me her granola bar in class. The memory made me smile, but when I sat down next to her, it faded.

Leo was turned around talking to her like he usually was, but the conversation didn't seem very fun.

"Hey." I said to both of them.
