"Oh come on Hazel, it's only one more class period."
"Why can't we just leave school early," Hazel whined. "I don't want to be here anymore."
Mia turned to face her, pulling Hazel away from the bathroom sink she was leaning against. Hazel had texted Mia during their fourth period and asked her to meet her in the bathroom. Mia thought she might have needed an emergency pad or perhaps a shoulder to cry on. Instead, Hazel had beckoned her because she was bored. "One. More. Class. Now go back and pay attention."
"Fine," Hazel pouted, "but if I die from boredom you better have my funeral the way we planned it back in freshman year." Mia rolled her eyes, remembering how the two had planned elaborate funerals, with whoever was still alive needing to perform a one hour song and dance performance honoring the other. Of course, it had been Hazel's idea.
Mia walked back to her own class and took thorough notes. When the final bell rang, she let out a sigh of relief. As much as she pushed herself to do well in school, it didn't mean she enjoyed it. She knew she was too worried about her future to stop her habits though. As she walked to the parking lot, she input her assignments and Hazel's into their shared calendar. She had conditioned Hazel to text her whatever assignments she was assigned as soon as the teacher told the students about it. On the drive to Mia's house, Hazel was silent, not bothering to listen to the radio.
"Hazel, are you mad at me? I know that class is boring but you needed to attend," Mia stated.
"Oh, don't worry. My shitty mood is because I'm thinking about how hungry I am and about the fact that Violet hasn't texted me in a few days. Do you think she's mad at me? Maybe she's found someone better," Hazel sighed.
"What! No one is better than you. If Violet doesn't like you the same way then it's her loss. There are plenty of flowers in the field. Also, if you're hungry we have leftovers. Casserole and marconi."
"Mhh, Anna's casserole's hit different. Count me in. Also, thanks Mia, you always know how to cheer me up," she praised. When they entered Mia's home, Hazel made a beeline towards the fridge. She put a generous helping of casserole and macaroni on a plate and stuck it into the microwave. Mia flopped on the couch while she waited for her friend to finish heating her food. Opening the tv, she flipped through the channels and finally settled on a random Criminal Minds episode. "Emily Prentiss is the gift we don't deserve," Hazel said as she walked into the living room, plate in one hand and health drink in the other.
"So is that dreamy Spencer Reid. Looks and brains are such a deadly combination," Mia said with a dreamy expression on her eyes.
As Hazel sat on the couch and started to feast, she let out a laugh. "Hey, I just realized that you've liked Reid for years, but your boyfriend is more like a combination of Hotch and Morgan."
"Nathan is not my boyfriend. Not my real boyfriend. Why do you say he's like Hotch and Morgan?"
"The whole stoic expression thing, super Hotch. Not to mention, the way Nathan protects you reminds me of how Morgan acts. It's cute though."
"If you say so," Mia shrugged. "I bet the unsub is actually a woman and that's what's wrong with the profile."
Hazel rolled her eyes, "We've seen this episode before super genius." Mia laughed at being called out.
After an hour, Hazel dramatically left, claiming she had to "face the evil that is the homework that hellhole bestows upon us" and also annoy Jade. Mia worked on her own homework for an hour before becoming bored. She decided to text Nathan. Maybe he would respond. Or she could just text spam him, she thought with an evil smile.
