On the day of the double date, Mia was getting dressed after her shower. Deciding on a yellow sweater with a vase of sunflowers embroidered on it and a jean skirt took only a few minutes. Pulling on yellow thigh high socks Mia grabbed her phone and wallet before making her way to the front door. Slipping on her black vans, she texted Nathan that she was ready. Nathan would pick her up and they would meet Hazel and Violet in the parking lot of the movie theater. When she got the reply that he would be at her house in ten minutes, she decided to grab a chocolate bar to munch on in the meantime. When Nathan pulled into the driveway, she shouted bye to her parents before running to the passenger seat. "Hi! Are you excited for the movie?"

"Yeah, I guess. I know they're going to end up together though." The group of four was going to watch a cheesy Christmas love story since it was a double date.

"But that's the best part! You get to enjoy the story knowing there's a happy ending coming. It's why I love romance books and movies so much," she explained.

"I guess it's fun to watch all these love stories, but real life isn't like that."

"Whatever grouch. You can't dampen my Christmas love spirit," she noted.

Glancing at her for a second, a smile graced his face. "I wouldn't want you to lose your optimism for a second. How happy you are makes you, well, you." Mia blasted Christmas songs for the remainder of the car ride, eventually getting Nathan to sing along to the ones he recognized. In the middle of listening to All I Want for Christmas Is You for the third time, they arrived. Spotting Hazel's car, Nathan parked near. Getting out of the car, Mia saw Hazel waiting for Violet to arrive. They had come separately since Violet had to work a quick shift before coming to the movies. Giving her a hug, Mia told Hazel how excited she was to meet Violet.

When a car pulled up a few spaces down from Hazel's car and out walked a teenage girl, a smile leaped onto Hazel's face. The girl waking up to the three of them was beautiful. Her skin looked like it was kissed by the sun and her hair was a halo of curls around her face. They were a different curl texture from Hazel's, not as tight. Her hair was also blonde, dyed wonderfully. Everything about her outfit screamed model, from the long legs clad in black skinny jeans to the form-fitting plum coat.

She gave Hazel a hug before turning to smile at Mia and Nathan. "Hi, I'm Mia. Hazel's best friend forever," Mia greeted as she held a hand out to her.

"I'm Violet, Hazel's girlfriend. It's so nice to meet you, she's told me so much about you!"

"All good I hope."

"About a quarter of it was good," Hazel shrugged.

A sour expression graced Mia's face. "You seem to forget I could make her breakup with you with all the knowledge I possess about you, Lowe. Remember camp in fifth grade?"

"You wouldn't dare," Hazel gasped.

"I can assure you most of it was good. She mainly tells me about how good of a friend you are and all the fun things you do together," Violet reassured. "I love your eye color by the way. You're so pretty," she complimented.

Mia's mouth opened slightly in shock. Turning to Nathan, she said, "We're breaking up, sorry."

"What the hell? Why?"

"Nothing you do will ever compare to how Violet just made me feel by calling me pretty."

"Oh come on, Mia. I've told you you're beautiful before."

Mia shook her head. "Yeah, but it's not the same. A pretty girl calling you pretty is like, the highest honor."

Nathan rolled his eyes and held a hand out to Violet. As the two of them talked, Hazel came to Mia's side. "Omg," she mouthed. "She's...ethereal."
