Mia flopped onto her bed with a groan. Nathan was going to pick her up in an hour and she still didn't know what to wear. Hazel was rifling through her closet, tossing clothes onto the floor. "What about this shirt?" Hazel held up a pink crop top.

"No way. It's hopeless. I have no idea what to wear and we still haven't done my makeup. Should I just cancel the date? Maybe this is the universe telling me I'm destined to be alone forever," Mia grumbled.

"No!" Hazel yelled. "I have not been a witness to you two denying your feelings for months just for you to cancel at the last minute. You are going on this date even if you wear sweatpants. Nathan would probably still think you're beautiful." Hazel went back to searching through the closet and gasped. "I've found it. This is perfect. Now put it on while I wash my hands."

Mia slipped the dress on

Mia slipped the dress on. The yellow spaghetti-strapped dress had a low neckline. The dress was illustrated with white flowers and ended only centimeters below her fingertips. Hazel emerged from the bathroom as Mia secured her star necklace and charm bracelet onto her person. Hazel started to apply her makeup, deciding on a more nude eyeshadow and soft, peach lip. When they were done, the girls walked downstairs to wait. Nathan arrived early, causing Mia to shoot up from the couch. Hazel beat her to the door and opened it with a glare. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to pick Mia up for our date," he laughed. Mia entered the doorway and gave him a smile. Nathan's eyes widened at the sight of her. "You look...you look absolutely beautiful," he breathed. "I got these for you," he handed her the bouquet of sunflowers.

"Thank you," she beamed. Mia's mother joined them from the kitchen.

"Oh, how sweet. Hello, Nathan." She took the flowers from Mia to put into a vase.

"Have her home by nine," Hazel instructed.

"Shut up," MIa punched her best friend's arm.

"Hazel have you forgotten I'm her mother? You don't have a curfew tonight sweetie."

Hazel turned to her in shock. "But Anna, he's going to corrupt our sweet Mia."

"You corrupted her long ago," she pointed out.

"Can we go on our date now?" Mia pondered.

Hazel turned to Nathan and declared, "Have fun but not too much fun. Also remember, if you hurt her, I will murder you."

"I wouldn't dream of it," he smiled at Mia. He held a hand out and she took it before the two walked to his car. As he opened the side door for her, Anna looked at Hazel.

"Are you staying for dinner? I made pasta and Brian's going to make wings."

Hazel wasted no time. "Count me in."

Mia and Nathan sat across from each other in the restaurant as they looked over the menus. They had finished watching a blockbuster action movie that's only redeeming quality was the funny side character that unfortunately died at the end. They had held hands during the movie but now that they could talk, they were silent. Exchanging glances at each other, they waited for the waiter to take their order. The small talk ceased when their food arrived. Few words were swapped while they ate. When they were both close to being finished with their food, it was still not going as they had anticipated.

With a sigh, Nathan put down his fork and knife. "This isn't working. This date is awkward and not what I thought would happen for our first date."

Mia stared at him for a moment, trying to figure out her words. "So that's it then? We have one bad date and what, just go back to being friends? Am I supposed to forget how you make me feel? Am I supposed to forget how you set my heart on fire with one look? How you leave me breathless after every kiss? I don't think I can."

Nathan reached his hand over and placed it on top of hers. Without a second thought, Mia pulled her hand out from under his and dropped it to rest in her lap with her other hand. "That's not what I meant. But I'm happy that you notice that when I look at you I see the most angelic girl in the world. I just don't think this is us. Trying to go on a stereotypical first date." He took out his wallet and placed three twenty-dollar bills onto the table even though the bill would come out to half of that. Hovering his hand over the table palm facing up, he tried again. "I meant to say this date isn't us. How about we skip ordering dessert and do something else? I was thinking we could go on an adventure," he smirked.

The smile found its way back to Mia's face. "What would we do on this adventure?"

"I don't know but together, we can find out."

"I would love to go on an adventure with you." The smile on her face grew.

Mia placed her hand in his and they stood up. Together, the couple ran out of the restaurant in a fit of laughter firmly holding hands, off to their next great adventure.
