"I'll bet you wish you hadn't given up Divination now, don't you, Hermione?" Parvati asked whilst smirkingIt was breakfast time, many, many days after the sacking of Professor Trelawney, and Parvati was curling her eyelashes around her wand and examining the effect in the back of her spoon. The fifth years, I've been told, were to have their first lesson with Firenze that morning
"Not really" said Hermione indifferently, who was reading the Daily Prophet with me "I've never really liked horses"
She turned the page of the newspaper as we scanned its columns
"He's not a horse, he's a centaur!" Lavender exclaimed, sounding shocked
"A gorgeous centaur..." sighed Parvati
"Either way, he's still got four legs" said Hermione coolly "Anyway, I thought you two were all upset that Trelawney had gone?"
"We are!" Lavender assured her "We went up to her office to see her; we took her some daffodils - not the honking ones that Sprout's got, nice ones"
"How is she?" asked Harry, sitting beside me as I rested my head on his shoulder
"Not very good, poor thing" Lavender said sympathetically "She was crying and saying she'd rather leave the castle forever than stay here where Umbridge is, and I don't blame her, Umbridge was horrible to her, wasn't she?"
"I've got a feeling Umbridge has only just started being horrible" said Hermione darkly
"Impossible" Mr and Ron scoff, he was tucking into a large plate of eggs and bacon as I ate some fruit "She can't get any worse than she's been already"
"You mark my words, she's going to want revenge on Dumbledore for appointing a new teacher without consulting her" Hermione said, closing the newspaper "Especially another part-human. You saw the look on her face when she saw Firenze"
"Not I didn't" I frown looking at them "I was too busy running after Minnie"
"Who's Minnie?" Parvati frowns
"Professor Mcgonagle" I grin "I think I've been around Remus and Sirius too much, that's what they and my mother used to call her"
"You never talk about your mother" Lavender says watching me intently "What's she like?"
"Well she was incredible" I sadly sigh. Harry gently squeezes me hand
"Was?" They pushed slightly
"She was killed when I was younger" I say quietly staring at the indents carved into the table. My eyes fall on several initials carved into the wood
"Oh I'm sorry" Lavender sympathetically smiled
"It's fine" I admit "Do I miss her, yes, but do I dwell of her death, no. Life always moves on and there's no point focusing on the past when your going into the future"
"I swear why do you keep getting wise?" Ginny laughs from opposite me
"Ravenclaw, the house of the wise and creative people" I laugh whilst they role their eyes. Moments later, I see Lavender and Parvati watching me with a very admiring looks "Are you guys okay?"
"I don't think I've ever seen a cuter couple" Lavender squealed. My face flushed red as I groaned. Slowly I dropped my head intending it to land on the table, instead, I landed on something softer. I raised my head to see a hand there. Gently I pushed it away before slamming my head on the table "Did I say something wrong?"
"Ophelia's not a fan of the word cute" Luna laughed "She says that-"
"-the adjective should only be used to describe a baby or animal, nothing else" I interrupted keeping my head against the table
"How about beautiful?" Lavender suggests
"Flowers...or stars" I answer. There was a short pause when I looked up again "I'm named after a star"
"Really?" Harry questions
"Yeah it also has a Greek origin meaning. Means help or helper" I say before shrugging "Don't know what I'm supposed to help with"
Eventually we all have to leave, heading to our first classes on the day. With Luna, we head up to the charms classroom where we walk into a happy Flitwick standing on his usual stack of books
"Morning Professor" We both say taking our seats
"Morning Miss Rayden and Miss Lovegood" He smiled "How are you two today?"
"Great" We both smile
Minutes later the rest of the class arrives therefore he starts the lesson. Like a usual charms lesson it's calm. Just us either studying or trying practicals. Eventually the lesson does come to an end so we leave the room then follow along to the rest of our classes. At the end we head down to dinner sitting at the Ravenclaw table. After that we head to the library just to get some work done
Luna, Ginny and I sat down in the corner of the library where we were blocked out of view
"Let's start potions" Ginny groans pulling out her parchment and textbook. We open to the required page beginning to start the essay
"Hey guys" A voice says, we look up to see Hermione heading over dragging the two boys over "Mind if we join you?"
"Not at all" I smile before Ginny can comment her thoughts. Harry takes a seat beside me flashing his charming smile as I mirror mine "You alright?"
"Good" He responds "You?"
"As good as you can get doing potions" I shrug with a slight laugh
"Get a room" Ginny murmured under her breath
"Oi, your the one who wanted us together if I'm not mistaken!" I frown at her she just looks up at me, sticks her tongue out, then looks down again "Rude"
