CHAPTER EIGHT
═══════════════The evening of Halloween snuck its way into the school. Many had fell into the mischievous and spooky side of the season. However everyone enjoyed the incredible feast the day brought
For the past several days, Ophelia had been attempting to sneak off every now and then. In attempt to go see the stray dog which now seemed to be inhabiting the shrieking shack. It seemed to be the perfect opportunity, no matter how long she had, to just say whatever was on her mind. To her she was the book and Snuffles was the reader. But it also seemed as if the dog reacted to the heartfelt moments as if relating to them in some way
However when sneaking off, the Ravenclaw had to create excuses to where she'd be disappearing off to. It wouldn't work to say the library incase her friends came down there when she wasn't. Or that she had in fact gone up to the astronomy tower because there was only one way up there. Many of the reasons had to be slightly truthful, stating that she was indeed going on a walk. But never in fact mentioning where or that it involves having to dodge a murderous tree
A knock taps against the wooden door of the girls dorm. Their heads turn in confusion as they head to open it. However their suspicion increases when they see a prefect on the other side
"Hey, Professor Flitwick needs everyone in the common room immediately" The prefect tells them, they nod in response allowing the older student to move onto the next dorm
Both girls grab a jumper, Ophelia also taking her small bag, before following several others down the stairs. It seemed as if the whole house was congregating into the common room. All had their eyes on the professor who stood by the entryway
"Okay, you all here?" Professor Flitwick hurriedly checked, glancing at his students "Okay, now everyone needs to be in their pyjamas before heading down in large groups to the great hall. Please make sure your with a student who is above their fifth year"
"What's happened?" A voice called out
"Sirius Black has been spotted in the castle" Flitwick informed them, followed by several scattered gasps and nervous glances. He manages to assure them that the situation is under control "So can those who haven't, quickly get changed before heading to the hall"
Luckily the two second years were already dressed in their pyjamas. Therefore joined onto the first group that left the common room. As they stepped out into the eery corridor, the two comfortingly took each other's hand
"Do you see that?" Ophelia murmurs info Luna's ear, looking into the shadows where she definitely thought she saw something. She knew something was lurking there and wouldn't let anyone tell her otherwise
"Ophelia please don't" Luna begged, squeezing her hand "It's enough that a murderer is still in the school let alone now your seeing something in the shadow. Look it's probably your mind making you assume somethings there because your scared"
The brunette sighs when seeing her fearing expression. She nods, silently agreed it must be her mind playing tricks on her. But at the same time the thought won't leave her because she can sense as if someone was watching her
Eventually they arrive to the great hall, joining the other houses who are making their ways in . They separately grab sleeping bags whilst also joining with Ginny. Following instructions, they go find a spot furthest away from the main door before rolling out the mats
"So what even happened?" Ophelia asked Ginny, her question being followed by a brief explanation of how Sirius Black had attempted to break into the Gryffindor Common Room. This lead to the Fat Lady running away from her portrait as he then slashed the painting
As Ginny was rounding off her explanation, the golden trio made their way over. They joined the three since there was a free section close to them. Eventually, however, everyone in the hall way brought to a hush. The head boy and girl, along with other prefects, telling the others to go down for the night
Knowing best not to argue, all heads slumped onto their pillows. Many students shutting their eyes to try and get sleep whilst others attempted at lowly whispering to their friends. The trio didn't bother attempting to talk as it probably would've resulted in a fit of trying to suppress giggles. Therefore they all laid their head against the pillow, drifting off to sleep
Now both Ginny and Luna managed to drift off, leaving Ophelia who resulted into looking up at the enchanted ceiling. Her eyes watching the stars above as she attempted to slumber off
With a huff, she rolled onto her stomach. The girl sneakily lifted her head up, attempting to see if anyone was patrolling around. Luckily for her, no one was walking around. Carefully she then zipped open her bag, attempting to remain quiet so she wouldn't disturb those surrounding her. Successfully she then managed to pull out her sketchbook and a pencil before her hand and mains then uncontrollably started to draw shapes onto the page
As she drew her mind was disconnected from reality, bringing her somewhere else. She wasn't sure what her mind did or went. It, in a way, went fuzzy. The girl was unaware of anything occurring around her, as if all her senses were blocked. Her eyes would fog over as she stared at the page before her. However this thing she had wasn't always. They usually tended for it to scarcely come over a long time period. But unfortunately for her, it so happened they were only going to get more frequent
The girl wasn't aware that she was curiously being watched. He had been awake the whole time but frowned when he heard a quill or something, running over a material. Harry had shifted onto his side, watching Ophelia from two bags down with curious eyes. Attempting to raise himself, the boy tried to get a look at what she was doing but became unsuccessful
Not long later the girl snapped out of her thoughts, coming back into reality. She shakes her head and rapidly blinks before her eyes dart around the hall. The brunette jumps when seeing Harry watching her, she raises her eyebrow, silently asking what he was looking at. However he just gestures his head to the book before her. Her lips part in understanding before she shrugged then carefully slid it over to him
The scar headed boy studied the page before him. His eyes floating around the greyscale drawing. At first his eyes were drawn to the moon which occupied a large proportion of the page and was focused on the upper left side. But on the right side a silhouette of a tree with its branches sticking out, stretched across the canvas. It's branches slightly going over the moon and the reflecting water which sat in the bottom half of the page
"Incredible" He mouthed as he handed the book back over, she grinned slightly but also attempted to hide the unwilling blush which crept onto her face
They give each other a grin before ducking their heads down when the doors open up. Both of their eyes close as they pretend to be asleep as footsteps cross the hall. A quiet muttering was coming from whoever entered but was drowned out when slumber overtook Ophelia. Her mind finally coming to a rest and switching off for the night
