₄ the great hall

REMUS WALKED down the hallway with his hands shoved in his pockets lined up with James, Sirius, and Peter. The Great Hall doors were open, revealing few students who were already seated for breakfast, chatting and waving their arms around. The group took their spot at the front of the Gryffindor table, chatting as they waited for Lily and Marlene.

Yet, Remus couldn't get one thing off of his mind. Thalia Frilio. Again. She was like a ghost wandering though his head, slipping in and out as she pleased, haunting his dreams and his thoughts.

He laughed at a joke James had said, trying his best to put on a poker face. It had worked, no one asked him a single question about it. Remus mentally pat himself on the back, listening to the clacking sound of everyone's shoes as the Great Hall became crowded. He felt an itch to look at the doorway, to see if she came walking in, but he didn't. He wouldn't let himself.

Instead, there was a feeling of someone ruffling his hair as they sat down. He looked over to his left and saw Lily Evans sat down next to him, her green eyes bright as she smiled at him. "Good morning, Remus," she said, looking over at Marlene.

"Yes, good morning," Marlene responded, smirking at the boy. He frowned and looked between the two, a playful smile on his face.

"What's wrong?" He asked, looking at them. They both merely shrugged their shoulders; hints of smiles on their faces.

"Nothing really, just wanted to say morning," Marlene said, reaching for the scrambled eggs in the middle of the table. Remus frowned for a second but decided to shrug it off, reaching for the oatmeal. He always had it with cinnamon and apples, just like his mother had made for him when he was little. Along with his coffee; made with a splash of milk and nothing more.

He had reached over and sipped on it, cringing as he burned his tongue. He quickly pulled the cup away and sat it down, running his tongue along the side of his cheek, trying to soothe the pain. Remus looked up for a second and saw Sirius staring at the doors to the Great Hall, his jaw clenched as his eyes followed something. Remus turned around and saw Thalia Frilio and Maeve Clarke walking into the Great Hall; their different colored robes stark against each other.

Remus watched as they parted ways, his eyes never leaving Thalia's figure as she sat at the Ravenclaw table. He took another sip of his coffee, careful not to burn himself this time as he took a sip. Thalia was talking to a girl with long blonde hair and multiple bracelets on her wrist. Thalia had smiled at her, eating her food as she listened to a story the girl was telling.

He didn't quite know how he felt about it, actually seeing Thalia Frilio smile in a nice way. Not a way that made you feel insignificant, or unneeded, but in a genuine, happy way.

He quickly tore his gaze away, looking back at his friends. Each one of them was staring at him, their eyes burning holes into his own, stripping away his skin and bones until all that was left were his thoughts.

"What?" He asked, taking another sip of his coffee.

Lily giggled a bit as she looked over at him. "You're watching that girl like she's a puzzle that you've been trying to complete for months," she told him. Remus smirked at her comment, shaking his head as he took a bite of his oatmeal.

"Well isn't that a good comparison," Marlene muttered, staring at the ginger haired girl. Lily merely shrugged and smiled, continuing to eat her breakfast.

"More like a dog who wants to ravage a piece of meat," James muttered, causing Sirius to belly laugh, his eyes squeezed shut as he placed a hand on James' shoulder.

Remus rolled his eyes and pointed his spoon at the two boys, gesturing between them. "You two, are the most disgusting things I have ever seen," he said.

Lily smiled and wrapped her arm around Remus' shoulders, pulling him closer to her as she stared at James and Sirius. "And this is why he is my favorite. Thank you, Remus," she said, releasing him and getting back to her breakfast.

Remus gave her a simple, close-lipped smile, reaching for his coffee again as he rested his elbows on the table. His gaze travelled back to the Ravenclaw table, his eyes immediately finding the whimsical looking girl. Now her eyes were on him too, watching as he ate his food. She was no longer talking to the blonde girl, merely staring at Remus as he conversed with his friends.

The itch to move tingled through his body, wanting nothing more than to move out of her gaze, but he held his ground. He felt a little bit of that Gryffindor courage erupt through his body, giving her a sly wink as he went back and talked to his friends. Remus dared not glance over at the blue clad table anymore, not wanting to see her expression after what he had just done - he was surprised himself at what he had just accomplished.

So, he merely watched as Sirius and Marlene bickered between which Muggle band was better, Queen or The Beatles. Remus definitely thought it was Queen, he loved the variation in their music. Sirius, of course, said The Beatles. Remus always thought it was because their songs sounded like an acid trip, he didn't doubt they were on acid as they wrote half of them. He smiled a bit, thinking about it, continuing to watch as Sirius asked James who he thought was better.

James perked up and stared at Marlene, confidently saying that he thought The Beatles was the better band, having influenced so many other artists and songs that other bands have written. Marlene merely rolled her eyes, looking over at Remus and asking him who he thought was better, but he wasn't listening.

He was too busy thinking about which band Thalia Frilio would have thought was the better one.

_____ A/N _____

sooo i may or may not have struck inspo on the bands because of my record wall *insert awkward smiling face* hehe, honestly though listening to the beatles is really just one big acid trip, i don't know what they're talking about half of the time. anyway, hope you like this chapter nay, lmao. it literally is probably a filler chapter but, that's okay because i love remus' inner monologue.
