REMUS GROANED in pain as he made his way into the Shrieking Shack, feeling little pricks in his skin as he felt himself transforming. How could he forget that it was the full moon tonight? He was always on top of it, always taking it easy the day before so he didn't feel as exhausted the day of. Of course he didn't because he was being stupid.

Why would he even go visit her yesterday? He knows that she doesn't like him, so what compelled him to do it? Remus knew that James would say it was because he was a considerate person, Peter would say it was just a whim, and Sirius would just tell him that he didn't know either.

His shoulder hit the dirt of the wall as he walked through the tunnel, waiting for the trap door that lead into the Shrieking Shack. Sweat coated his body, dripping down his neck as his skin continued to itch and burn. He just needed to make it into the shack, then he would be okay.

Paranoia washed over his brain. It felt like he had been walking for miles. He just needed to get into the Shrieking Shack. That's all he wanted to do, was get into the Shrieking Shack. Pain erupted in the soles of his feet, making Remus double over and land on all fours. A whimper escaped his mouth as he crawled his way towards the trap door, trying to ignore the burning sensation from his feet.

He needed to get inside.

Pants came out of his mouth as he spotted the trap door; bracing onto the wall, he stood up on his feet and stumbled over towards the trap door. He flung it open, crawling up the ladder and inside the old shack. Quickly shutting the door behind him, he stumbled his way over to the ripped up couch, falling onto it and whimpering in pain.

Pain.

That was the only thing on his mind. He wired his eyes shut as he laid on the couch, suffering in pain. Remus knew that the rest of the group wouldn't be here until later, they were finishing up a couple things. So he laid there in pain. Wondering when it was going to stop. Hoping it would just pass and he wouldn't have to go through it again.

But Remus' wishes never came true.

Madame Pomfrey dabbed the cotton ball onto Remus' forehead, causing him to hiss in pain. It stung as the disinfectant touched his wound, seeping into the cut.

"You've really done a number on yourself this time, Mr. Lupin," she commented, grabbing another cotton ball and soaking it with disinfectant.

"I know," Remus grumbled, digging his fingernails into his palms to distract from the pain on his face.

The doors to the hospital wing flung open with the Marauders waltzing in with Lily and Marlene. Remus and Madame Pomfrey both looked over at the door, watching the group of teenagers walk into the room. A sigh escaped her mouth as she turned back around and continued to disinfect his wounds.

"I have already told you lot that there is no visitors right now!" She scolded, grabbing another cotton ball from the jar.

"Yes you have," James said.

"We just choose not to listen," Sirius finished, smiling at the nurse.

She sighed and pointed to the side of the room. "Go sit, I'm almost done," she said. Lily, Marlene, and Peter obliged, walking over to the beds on the other side of the room and sitting down. Sirius and James stood next to them, watching as Remus flinched every time the cotton ball touched a wound.

"You know, you'd think you'd be better with pain considering you go through this once a month," Sirius said, smirking at Remus.

"Don't be a jerk," Remus muttered, opening his eyes when he heard a clatter.

Madame Pomfrey was fiddling around with some medical tools, stringing some thread into a needle. Remus sighed and internally cringed, knowing he was going to have even more scars on his skin. He had never liked them. He always thought they were like sins that everyone could see on his body; they showed everyone that he was different. He was dangerous.

He was a monster.

Remus quickly threw that thought into the back of his head, not wanting to cry in front of so many people.  He started picking at his cuticles inside, watching as the skin was ripped off in strings. He had a habit of picking at his fingers; biting them, peeling the skin away. His fingers were ghastly; pink around his nail and bitten to a stub.

His mother had always warned him that if he didn't stop biting his nails they wouldn't grow past that point. It scared him as a child, of course, but as he got older he never cared. Remus stopped caring about a lot of things as he got older, but everyone told him that he was the most caring and compassionate person they've ever met.

He didn't quite know how to feel about it.

"Okay, you're all done. Just sit in here and rest for a bit, and we'll send you back once you think you've recovered," Madame Pomfrey said, holding out a bit of tonic for Remus to take.

He immediately knew that the tonic was for his scars. Madame Pomfrey made it herself. It helped the scars fade, eventually leaving just a slight bump on the skin. Remus was eternally grateful for Madame Pomfrey. She always took care of him after his episodes and he knew she never judged him for it. It made him feel that much more at peace with himself.

"Oi, Moony," James said, walking over to the side of the bed.

"Mr. Potter, he needs to rest," Madame Pomfrey scolded.

"I know, just give me a moment," he said, waving her off. She frowned at him and crossed her arms, waiting for him to leave so her patient could be at peace.

"Guess who's coming to the Halloween party?"
