Chapter 20

They both sat on the bed together in silence, she rested her head on his shoulder and he held her hand. He placed one hand on her shoulder and said "thank you for letting me in"

She looked up at him and he smiled down at her. His smile had once again struck her heart like a lightning bolt, what was happening, did she also have feelings for him?, if she was meant to choose, would she choose him over Rufus?.

She looked away trying to control her emotion, her cheeks were flushed red and it was very obvious.

He Just smiled and said "I just want you to know that I'm always here for you whenever, just call me, I'm only one call away "

"Thank you "

"no, thank you, for letting me in, and just so you know, I'll wait for you "

She turned to look at him "wait for me? "

"yes, until your ready to be mine, I believe you know how I feel and nothing can change that. I can't ask you to be my girlfriend now cause of what you just went through, I'll wait a little while for you "

Her eyes widened more than before, she was surprised to hear that. He smiled at her and squeezed her arm tight. Her freckled face turned red, she felt her heart beating faster than ever. she also felt uncomfortable to be so close to him.

She just off the bed, adjusting her clothes and pushing her hair behind her ear "uh *clears throat* I need to Uhm change, I need to change my clothes and probably wash up"

"do you need my help with that?"

"oh no, I can handle it "

He smirked and stood up from the bed, he headed towards the door but paused beside her "remember, one call away"

She smiled and nodded

"and remember how strong my bed is " he jokingly said

"get out" she said with a warm smile on her face

He laughed and exited the room. She stood in the middle of the room for a while, then slowly placed her hand on her chest to feel her pacing heart. She smiled and threw herself at the giant bed.

This feeling was almost enough to make her forget the tragedy ahead, just almost.

Morning soon came, it was a miracle they had sound sleep and non of them had seen any message.

Sitting in the living room watching television was Rufus and Myrtle, Chase was in the kitchen preparing something to eat while Kai and Lottie were still in bed.

After showering, Charlotte put on a bogus top and some shorts which exposed her legs, her hair made into a ponytail as always and her glasses which she hadn't used in days.

She climbed down the stairs to get herself something to drink but ended up colliding with Myrtle and Rufus.

"good morning " Myrtle said jumping off the couch

She just smiled at her and headed to the kitchen.

"hey good looking " Chase flirted

"good morning" she replied shyly
"how's your injury? " he asked gently placing his hand on her cheeks

His touch sent shivers down her spine, she suddenly felt cold from inside

"Uhm it's uh okay, it doesn't hurt much"

"that's a relief, but just in case, I made you this herbal tea, it'll help with the pain "

He handed her some ginger herbal tea and she collected it with a smile.

"guys I got mine!! "

They all hurried to the living room to meet up with Lottie

"what does it say, hurry!" Kai asked

"it says... Tell the truth about... About... "

"about what? " Charlotte yelled

Lottie couldn't read it for some reason, Charlotte jacked the phone from her and read the message "tell the truth about Myrtle's real father's death"

"what do you know about my father's death? " Myrtle asked

"tell me!! " she yelled angrily

"I.. He.. " she gulped

"please Lottie! " Charlotte pleaded

"when I.. I.. Went to your place, I.. saw your dad he.. He was drinking again and he was drunk, he went to the pool where he had left his phone and... And he... He slipped and hit his head and there was so much blood and I.. I just panicked... I ran away without even thinking about calling an ambulance" she paused and wiped her tears with her hands

"I'm sorry Myrtle, it was so stupid of me, I don't know what I was thinking "

Myrtle fell to the ground and sobbed bitterly, Charlotte knelt beside her to console her and Lottie did the same.

The boys gave them some space to settle things and become inseparable like before.

After consoling and apologising to one another, they promised never to fight again no matter what and that any secret they had would be brought into the light so they wouldn't have anything to hide anymore, no matter how hard it is to admit.

"hey, can we talk? "

Charlotte and Rufus went for a walk together to discuss the fate of their relationship

"I forgive you " she said

"wow thank you "

"hear me out first "

She stopped and stood still, Rufus also stopped beside her to pay full attention to her

"I forgive you but I can't forget it, I'm sorry but I don't think we should continue with this relationship "

"Charlotte —"

"please don't interrupt me. We've had great times together but it's clear that our future is not together, we have to go our separate ways "

She sighed then continued "we don't make each other happy, I can't satisfy you in every way and you know that, no matter how much I try...no matter how much we try, we'll never be good enough for ourselves "

"it's because of Chase isn't it? "

"it's not because of him, it's because we have a better future together as friends but not as a couple. Back then, you asked me out because you were desperate for a girlfriend and I accepted because my boyfriend had died and all I needed was to be loved again"

"Charlotte we can always make it work " he said grabbing her hands but she broke free

"you know that we were both blinded by our interior motifs to see the real truth. I knew that you always wanted Myrtle but I took you anyway cause I was also desperate, I hurt my friend which is wrong—"

"Char—"

"let's not talk about this anymore, it's decided that we, from now on, we're just friends "

She turned and walked away from him, she didn't have the guts to look at his face and she didn't want him to watch her cry either.

This trip couldn't get anymore devastating for Charlotte
