All worries were forgotten, the embrace of Chase was just enough to wipe away all bad memories for a while. They walked home together hand in hand, smiling and giggling. He had promised to protect her no matter what even if it meant giving up his life for her like Damian did. Mentioning Damian's name snapped her out of the rainbow and cute kittens world she was lost in from Chase's kiss.
"can we not talk about Damian right now?"
"oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude" he replied feeling awkward, that wasn't the point he wanted her to acknowledge but either way he was cool with it.
An awkward silence came between them and they just walked without uttering a word to each other.
Finally Chase broke the silence "so I know you don't want to remember 'you know who' but can you please tell me what you guys were supposed to do to end this game, if... If you still remember that is".
She stopped and looked at him almost like she wanted to strangle him but also kiss him. She inhaled deeply then exhaled before saying "how could I forget" she continued walking "when we came here, Damian and I, we met someone, her name was Lisa. She was the most interesting person I've ever met in my life, she showed us around and introduced us to her friends, we all literally became besties".
"And then what happened?" Chase questioned.
"She introduced us to this game, she said it was a totally normal game of truth or dare but the rules were quite different, if you're already in then you either do the dare or die, or tell the truth or die". Stopping to catch her breath "we all just laughed, we believed she wanted to scare us so we played anyway, not until we realised what we had gotten ourselves into".
She stopped as if remembering something very painful, closing her eyes tight, she prayed to forget but she couldn't.
Chase pulled her in just close enough to kiss her lips that had turned into an upside down smile "you have been through a lot and you've had to endure it all on your own, but I'm here for you now, your pain is my pain. Forever and beyond baby".
His words somehow reassured her that things will turn for the better of all or at least hopefully.
She forced a smile on her face and hugged him tight. They were there for a few moments before Charlotte's phone began to ring.
Without hesitation, she untangle herself from his arms and checked her phone, it was Lottie, she answered the call but heard nothing but silence "hello?"
"hey girl, how's it going?" Lottie answered
Charlotte was quick to release a sigh making Lottie nervous "is something wrong, did you get a dare or something or did a mysterious number call you? "
"breathe babe, everything is fine... So many questions, which am I to answer first?"
Lottie sighed in relieve making Charlotte chuckle "I just wanted to check in on you, did you find Chase?"
"oh yes I did, we're heading home now"
"okay".
Charlotte hung up the phone and continued to stroll casually with Chase one slow step at a time.
Once again, Chase broke the silence between them "I don't understand something, well two some things", Charlotte giggled at his humor before replying "what's that if I may ask?".
"Well our cell network was cut off, we can't place any calls or texts or Nada"
"okay... " she said waiting for him to finish his statement
"But, a big but to be precise" he emphasized with his hands while saying 'big but' and Charlotte couldn't help but to laugh "a big but really, whose butt?".
"Wait what?.... No" he laughed. "Just kidding, I'm listening".
He stopped which made her stop "what?", he didn't reply, he just stared blankly into her eyes "what!" she yelled this time punching him softly in the chest. He just chuckled and finally replied "nothing".
They both laughed and they continued walking. "So my point is, how coma we can call each other but not our parents or friends unless someone dies?".
She sighed deeply before saying "he's just messing with us purposely and he's trying to cut us out of the real world. Soon our phones will die cause we don't have electricity and there's nothing we can do about it unless we end him".
A sudden darkness that wasn't there before took over her face and she wasn't smiling anymore, it was like when the weather suddenly becomes filled with dark clouds like it's about to rain, "and we have to, soon".
Chase noticed this sudden change of expression on her face and he didn't like it. He squeezed her arm reassuringly "we're in this together" smiling from ear to ear to her.
His smile was like clear skies that suddenly overshadowed the dark and stormy clouds in her head.
Of all the emotions she could feel at that moment, she felt scared. She feared this new fellow her heart beats so hard for, she could loose him any moment, it could even be right now, just as she had lost her first true love.
Pulling her cheeks snapped her out of her thoughts "ouch!!!" she cried out in pain, "whatchu thinking of?" Chase asked. "Nothing" she replied rubbing her cheek.
"You're so cute when you lie" he teased.
She smiled, still rubbing her already red flushed cheek.
Finally they arrived home giggling and chatting when suddenly Charlotte noticed Lottie walking helter skelter looking perplexed "Lottie!" she called out "guys, I've been calling you!!, where did you drop your phones" she yelled out running towards them. "What it didn't ring!" chase explained, "are you okay!, what's wrong?!" Charlotte said holding her hands trying to calm her down.
Lottie already crying couldn't stay calm, her hands were fidgeting and she could hardly breathe "I – I don't – he" she stammered.
"Lottie breathe" Chase said slightly rubbing her back trying to get her to relax but it didn't work so well.
"I can't – Rufus" she said burying her teary face in her arms.
Charlotte rushed in to check but Chase pulled her back "stay with her, she needs you", "but i–" he broke her off "I'll check it out, leave it to me okay?" still wanting to argue, she swallowed her words back choking on them. She just nods in reply because she knew arguing would do no good than waste time.
She stayed behind hugging her best friend trying to calm her down but Lottie couldn't stop crying. Charlotte tried to get her to talk but it seemed a cat has gotten Lottie's tongue.
Curiosity wouldn't let her remain outside, she wanted to know what happened "Lottie is he dead?" Lottie nods negatively which made her a little calm but only a little...
