Chapter 24

"Do a dare"............

Things literally got worse. Kai's phone buzzed, he got a text which read "do a dare "...... He was supposed to do a truth now but what could he do. Another text came "shoot.... " then another "Charlotte.... "

He fell to his knees sobbing, Charlotte rushed to him "what is it!" anxious to know.

"I have to shoot you, you! Charlotte.... I can't do that" shaking his head, Kai stood up and went outside and she followed "Kai wait, it doesn't mean you have to kill me, just shoot on the arm or somewhere....... "

"No!!!", he interrupted "don't you get it?, he wants us all dead, you especially for some reasons, babe tell me what else you know about this demon, what really happened when you played it before" he begged.

"wait what?" confused Rufus said "what do you mean when she played before!"

"listen when Chase's girlfriend placed all of you on mind control–"

"woah Esmay and I never dated okay, I dunno what she told you but we never dated" Chase interrupted.

"Whatever. That day, Charlotte told me she had played previously with Damian and a few friends which I'm guessing Esmay was part of. But why is he after you in particular?, please tell us let's help you".

He pleaded but kept his distance from her. She hesitated before finally speaking. "Many years ago, I played this game with..... Someone" a streak of tear rolled down her cheeks and she instantly wiped it off and continued "Damian and I, we thought it was a normal game. It was – fun, we came here together with a few friends and we actually had fun. Little did we know what we got ourselves into. When Damian took that jar, somehow he unleashed the demon and he's been after us since then".

She stared at everyone before moving forward towards a mould of sand on the ground. The tears she had been trying so hard to hold in finally escaped, a heavy waterfall started down her cheeks. "We tried to escape from this.... This evil but nothing we did worked, we called out to people for help but we sounded stupid. This spot...  This" she hesitated sobbing bitterly.

"This spot is where my Damian rest" she said before bursting out into tears.

Chase made a move to go to her but Kai was faster. He knelt beside her and placed her head on his chest. Lottie sobbed loudly covering her mouth with her hands while Chase and Rufus were speechless.

She continued "he gave his life to end the game, we already lost a few friends and he was afraid he'd loose me too so he gave up his life instead, he didn't die from playing the game but gave up his own life that's why his body was never found. Every night I can still hear him calling out to me ". They all gathered around her to comfort her and she just laid in Kai's arms sobbing.

Time was moving fast and Kai was running out of time, he wasn't ready to shoot his sister not even on the toe and Charlotte wasn't ready to loose her brother. For every dare they were given, a particular amount of time was provided and he had only thirty minutes with twenty minutes already gone.

Lottie wouldn't stop crying, Charlotte wouldn't stop begging Kai and Kai wouldn't stop refusing. "I need you in my life Kai!!!, don't do this!".

He finally agreed but just a shot on the leg, he cocked his gun aiming, ready to shoot but the gun would persistently raise itself towards her head.

"What is happening? " Lottie asked.

"he wants me to kill you" Kai said putting the gun down.

"no, no that's not fair, it's not fair!!, he didn't......" before Charlotte could finish her sentence, Kai raised the gun again but this time to his head "what are you doing?" Charlotte said.

"I can't kill you Char"

"I know and you won't but just put the gun down Kai, let's be reasonable here"

She slowly moved forward to him repeating "put the gun down kai" gesturing with her hands.

He closed his eyes tight with tears rolling down his face, his fidgeting hands held the gun firmly. He had sweat streaks on his face and he bit his lips tightly before saying "I love you, tell mom and dad I love them too".

"Noo!!!!" before she could move any closer to him, he pulled the trigger. The sound of the gunshot made Charlotte stop midway, she could have sworn she felt her heart stop for a moment.

Her vision became blurry followed by a piercing whistle that made her bang her head severally trying to get the noise to stop. She closed her eyes shut for a few painful seconds just hoping it was all a dream and everything would be back to normal. Squeezing at her chest, she gasps loudly to catch her breath, a part of her knew it wasn't a dream which made sorrowful tears fall down her face. Eyes still shut, she prayed and cried "I want to go home".

Opening her eyes, she saw blood, everywhere. Acting dumb to what she just saw "where's Kai?" she said as she turned around facing Chase. Tears still rolling down her cheeks, she wiped them off and asked again shifting her gaze to Rufus who was standing next to Lottie "where's Kai?". Lottie couldn't stop sobbing, she moved closer to hold her friend but Charlotte jacked free "why isn't anyone answering me?, where is my brother?".

"Charlotte please!" Lottie begged her still crying.

Charlotte turned around looking at the pool of blood "what is that?" she asked pointing at it. She noticed a body and realised it was her own brother lying lifelessly in his own blood.

She covers her mouth with her hands sobbing even more "who? — who's that?" pointing at the body.

"Kai?" she said moving closer to him. The piercing whistle was back again and she could only hear her owns voice. Taking one painful step and then another slowly, she finally got to her brother's body. Kneeling beside him, she called out to him again "Malakai are you okay?.......... Does it hurt?".

She rolled him over to look at his face, her fidgeting hands traced his face and she sobbed silently "Kai can you hear me?" she whispered underneath her voice.

His blood stained her body but she didn't seem to mind, she laid on him using his chest as her pillow, the image of the bullet forcing it's way in and out of his head returned to her and she started to cry even louder.

Lottie couldn't go any closer to Kai's body, Chase went closer to her and crouched down beside her. He hesitated before placing a comforting hand on her back. He pulled her away from Kai's body and closer to him embracing her tight.

Kai's body was transported back home and with him, Charlotte wrote a letter "Mom, Dad, I'm really sorry about this
                      I wish I could come home and explain
                      things to you in person but, I might die
                      here, just as Myrtle did and Kai for my
                     sake. He wanted me to let you guys know
                     he loves you so much. I love you guys too.
                     I might die here along with my friends just
                    as Damian did. Don't worry too much and
                    I'm sorry you lost your son and might loose
                   me too, it's might fault, I played with fire and
                   got burnt. I summoned the devil and now I
                  Need to banish him for the sake of all humanity.
                  Kai and I will always be with you.

She thought to her self "I never thought about how I'd die, but dying to save the lives of the innocent is a pretty good way to go. I summoned the devil himself so now I'm ready to face the consequences. Whatever happens happens. For the sake of all humanity"........

BUT WAS IT REALLY HER FAULT, IT WAS DAMIAN WHO UNLEASHED IT'S SOUL......
