"What am I forgetting?" Virgil wondered. "There wasn't anything else on today, was there? There's rehearsal and then there's- oh shit, Issac's lecture."
"Virgil." Ace said, clapping their hands and making Virgil jump. "When you're ready to come back to the real world, we're blocking the second scene. You're kinda needed."
"Uh, right, sorry." Virgil said, standing up.
"It's fine, just stay awake from now on, okay?" Ace nodded their head.
"Yeah, um, which side do I enter from?"
"That's just what we're working out."
"Oh, right." Virgil nodded slightly. "I can't believe I forgot." He thought. "Issac's going to be so pissed at me."
"Come on, come on." Virgil hissed as he bounced his foot, looking at his phone. "I'm so sorry, Issac. Please pick up."
"Virgil? Why're you calling?"
"Issac! Oh God, I'm so sorry that I missed your lecture! I just forgot and I've been so busy."
"Virge, calm down. Breathe." Virgil nodded, knowing that Issac couldn't see him, and took a breath. "It's okay that you missed my lecture. It was nothing big."
"Yeah, your first lecture on philosophy. Why would that be big? I'm really sorry, Issac."
"Virge, breathe. Again. It's okay. I know this play means an insane amount to you. Annie took a video, anyway. I could send it to you, if that'd make you feel better."
"Um, yeah." Virgil put his hand out as the bus rounded a corner. "Um, I've got to go now. Again, I'm really-"
"Sorry, I know. It's okay, Virge. Can't wait to see your show. Bye."
"Yeah, bye." Virgil hung up as the bus came to a stop.
Roman ran his finger along the spines of the books as he looked around. Not being able to find the book, he located a shop assistant.
"Hey, excuse me?"
"Yeah?" The assistant asked, sparing Roman a glance before going back to shelving books.
"Um, do you have any books by Virgil Summers?"
"Have you looked in the V section?" They asked.
"Yeah. I, um, can't find it."
"Then we don't have it. Wait, you say Summers?"
"Um, yeah."
The assistant, their name tag said they were called Violet, held up a finger.
"One moment." She ran her hand over the spines in the V section for a minute before tapping on one of them and giving it to Roman. "There you go. V. Summers, Student Hierarchy. Is this what you were looking for?"
"Um, yeah, I guess." Violet gave him a small smile that was more customer service than anything else.
"Good. Anything else or can I get back to my job?"
"Uh, no. Thanks." Violet gave him another customer service smile before leaving him alone.
"This is kinda creepy." Roman thought as he looked at the cover. "So what? It's normal to be curious." He reasoned. "This is not just curious."
Roman closed his door and took of his shoes, studying the cover of Virgil's book. Was he really surprised that Virgil had published a book?
The easy answer was yes. Virgil, despite everything he insisted, was scared of publicity and very anxious about almost everything.
The honest answer was no. Virgil had always been determined to publish his notes. And when he was determined to do something, nothing got in his way. Not personal feelings and not anxiety.
"Well, Virgil," Roman murmured to the empty flat, "let's see how your high school experience was."
Shorter chapter than the others, I know. Also, ANNIE AND ISSAC LIVE! Do-Don't ask.
Bye,
Blaize
