"This is going to be a disaster, this is going to be a disaster, this is going to be a-"
"Virgil?"
Virgil jumped and flinched away from Roman. "Don't touch me."
"Right, forgot you didn't like to be touched. Anyway, are you okay?"
Virgil crossed his arm protectively. "Yes, I'm fine."
"No, you're jumpy. What's up?" Roman looked at the rain dripping off Virgil's hood, speckling his cheeks like tears. "You'll catch a chill if you don't get an umbrella or a coat." He held his umbrella over both his and Virgil's head. Virgil glared at him but didn't step back.
"Nothing's up, Roman." He hissed.
"You really think I'm going to believe that shit?" Roman asked, raising an eyebrow. "You're jumping at shadows. You don't have to say anything but... what's wrong?"
"Nothing." Virgil snapped. He took a mini step back, still not leaving the protection of the umbrella. "Leave me alone. Go away."
Roman pointed at the umbrella above their heads. "You really want me to?" He shrugged and stepped back. "Okay."
"Roman."
Roman laughed and stepped forwards. "I was just doing what you wanted, Sunshine."
"If I didn't need this umbrella's protection, I'd shove you."
"I know." Roman said, looking out at the street, shining in the rain. He looked at Virgil and noticed he was looking at Roman too. They both looked back at the street quickly.
"What was that whole thing in the costume department?" Roman asked eventually.
"Hm? What thing?"
"Don't play the selective memory card now." Roman refused to look at Virgil and Virgil refused to look back. "What was that? Cause it was weird from where I was."
"Just... little too invested in the character?" Virgil said, almost like a guess. "Sorry." He said after a lot of hesitation.
"Thanks."
They stood under the umbrella for a while more, the silence only punctured by the rain hitting the pavement below them and the umbrella above them.
"So... gonna tell me why you're so nervous?"
"No."
Roman nodded to the side slightly. It was the answer he'd been expecting. "Gonna tell me why you didn't just go inside?"
"It's locked." Virgil said, looking at his nails.
"Okay?"
"And I don't have a key. Only Ace and the receptionist, what's her name... Minnie?"
"Mina."
"Yeah, her. Only they have keys. And neither of them are here right now. How did you remember her name?"
Roman shrugged. "I'm good with names."
"Yet you can't be bothered to say mine?"
"You gave me a nickname first, Sunshine. It's my turn now."
"You liked the nickname, Princey."
Roman rolled his eyes.
"You still can't roll your eyes." Virgil said, smiling like he was supressing a laugh. "You just go like," he rolled his eyes one way and then the other, "and think that's rolling your eyes."
"Well how d'you do it, Genius?"
"Why thank you for saying I'm smart. And this is how you do it." Virgil rolled his eyes.
"That's how I did it!"
"It is not!"
"Is too!"
"Is not!"
Roman chuckled. "Okay, we're both acting like children."
"You started it."
"Further proving my point." Virgil glared at him and that made Roman laugh even more. "Anyway, d'you know when Ace or Mina are going to be here?"
"I've been standing here since 4, Princey. I don't even know what time is anymore."
Roman stared at him. "That's 2 hours."
"Yeah."
"You mean you've been standing here."
"Yeah."
"In the rain?"
"Yeah."
"For two hours?!"
"Yeah. Why's that a problem?"
"And you haven't been wearing a coat?!"
Virgil shrugged. "I don't get cold."
"You may not but your body will."
Virgil blinked at Roman a few times. "None of that made sense, Princey."
"You're going to get seriously ill, basically."
"Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine?"
"I'm not saying it as a prediction, I'm saying it as a fact."
"Why are you so bothered?" Virgil asked, crossing his arms protectively. "It's not like you care about me, anyway."
Roman sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'm not gonna deal with this today. I'm going to get coffee, want any?"
"I don't drink coffee, Princey."
"Okay. Um, keep the umbrella safe for me?"
Virgil raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything.
"Virgil. Can I get an answer?"
"What are you? A fucking teacher?" Virgil grabbed the umbrella, his fingers brushing Roman's. Roman put his hands in his pockets quickly. "Fine."
Odd ending, I know. But, before you say it everyone who's been saying this, BoNdInG! Also, am I the only one who feels weird about the word 'chuckle'? *shivers* It gives me weird vibes. No? I'm... I'm the only one who feels that? Right, okay.
Bye,
Blaize
