Roman realised he was reading with the book two inches from his face. Looking up and blinking a few times, he also realised how dark it had gotten. How long had he been reading Virgil's book?
"I'm gonna end up wearing glasses if I keep doing this." He muttered to himself as he got up to turn a light on. He caught sight of a clock and saw that it was past nine pm. He'd been reading for over three hours.
Roman rubbed his eyes. The time didn't change.
"Jesus Christ, Sunshine. You wrote an insanely long book." He said. "And now I'm talking to myself." Roman took a deep breath and shook his arms.
"Okay, calm down." He thought. "Just go to bed. You've read the book about three times now."
Roman sighed and rubbed his eyes again. "I think I'm going insane."
"Hey Virgil." Virgil completely ignored Roman. "Ah yes, wonderful socialising."
"Leave me alone, Sing-A-Lot." Virgil growled. "I've not got enough energy to deal with," he waved his hand in Roman's general direction, "today."
Roman shrugged and sat down. "I read your book." He said eventually.
"You fucking what?" Not exactly the reaction he'd been hoping for but the one he'd expected. He shrugged again.
"I read your book. It's pretty good." He looked at Virgil's face, a mix of shock and irritation, and raised an eyebrow. "Or is it illegal for me to read books now?"
"I never said that."
"I never said that you did." Roman said and shrugged. "Loved how little bad things you wrote about me. Very surprising, actually, seeing as your entire attitude towards me is 'you ruined my life' attitude."
"I wasn't writing a book about you, genius. I was writing notes about school. Or did you not read the title?"
"Why thank you for calling me smart."
Virgil glared at him and Roman laughed.
"Stop provoking me. What's your aim here?"
Roman shrugged. "No aim. Just feel like messing with someone today. And seeing as you already hate me with a burning passion..."
"So not only are you a pest, you're lazy. Great." Virgil sighed. "I'm not sure whether this is Remus finally having rubbed off on you or you just somehow being worse than in school."
"You were singing a very different song in school."
"So were you. Or do I need to keep reminding you of how you broke my heart twice for 20 quid?" Roman's face fell slightly and Virgil rolled his eyes. "Oh don't put on that fake shit. I know you're not sorry about it."
"What about me apologising profusely for what I did make you think that?"
"Jesus Christ, you really are thick." Virgil sighed. "It's not-"
"I can't tell what I've walked in on." Both of them looked towards the door, where Aaron was standing. "But I'm just gonna borrow one of you for singing practice before your arguments get physical. Um, Roman? You got time?"
"Uh, yeah. Yeah." Roman tried to smile at Aaron.
"Great. And, um, Ace wants to see you, Virgil."
"Like, now?"
Aaron nodded.
"Shit. What have I done wrong now?"
Roman caught up with Virgil.
"What were you going to say?" Virgil gave no indication of hearing nor caring but Roman continued anyway. "What were you going to say? Before Aaron walked in?"
"None of your business, Princey."
"And the nickname has returned." Roman said triumphantly. "Also, kinda is my business, seeing as you were saying it to me."
"Roman, I can't remember."
"Your memory is bigger than a computers. You remember." Virgil glared at him.
"I was going to say that words don't make an apology. That's why 'sorry' means nothing. It's not the word that make the apology, it's the actions after it. Whether people change or not. You weren't sorry, Princey." Virgil looked Roman in the eye, a small glint of pity in his own. "You never changed."
I've just realised that when I have shitty days, I write fluff. When I don't, I write, well, this. Angsty shit like this. Now we know the secret to my brain!
Bye,
Blaize
