"Hey Princey?" Virgil asked, as if he'd just gotten a sudden idea.

"Hm? What?"

"What's your costume? Cause I just realised that the only reason you saw mine was because you walked in while I was there."

Roman shrugged and a secretive grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. "You'll just have to wait. It's kinda like yours but... not black."

"That doesn't narrow it down at all."

"It's not meant to." Roman said. Virgil half glared at him. "Don't look at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like that. Like half of you wants to kill me but you're not going to."

"Well of course I'm not gonna kill you. I'll leave that up to Remy."

Roman laughed. "Remy still wants to kill me, huh?"

"A little, yeah. At least, I think so. He's one of those people you can't read no matter how long you've known them for."

"Must run in the family then." Roman said. More muttered, really, but Virgil could still hear him and it drove a spike of guilt through his heart for no good reason.

"I... I really am sorry, Roman." Virgil muttered. "Didn't know I'd been such a dick to you."

"You know it's fine, right? You've already apologised and everything." Virgil shrugged.

"Yeah. Just not enough." He said, crossing his arms protectively. "I mean, you apologised, what, like, ten times and I've apologised twice or something."

"Yeah but I'm kinda better at taking apologies."

Virgil looked side-ways at Roman but didn't say anything. He just brushed his fringe over his eyes and looked at the floor.

"So, you've memorised your lines and everything but what about ques?" He asked eventually.

"Are you just trying to find an excuse to feel better about what happened?"

"Is it that obvious?" Virgil asked, laughing a little under his words. "And kinda. And the other reason is... I'm just trying to be a decent person for once." That wasn't what he'd meant to say at all.

"Oh." Roman shrugged. "Okay. Right, um, maybe we should get to the stage now? Think we're meant to be meeting there, actually."

"Oh. Oh, right. Um, yeah." Virgil shook his head slightly like he was trying to rid his head of something. "Yeah."

Virgil counted the stairs almost on instinct, muttering under his breath. It was something that had always calmed him down.

"What are you counting?"

Virgil looked up at Roman sharply. "Uh, nothing."

Roman raised an eyebrow. "Then why are you counting?"

"I, um, uh, I- careful!" He grabbed Roman's arm as Roman missed a step and nearly fell down the stairs. "Jesus, Princey. Be careful."

"Yeah, sorry." Roman said, standing up a little straighter and pulling on the bottom of his shirt. "That is the second time's someone told me that on these stairs. You'd think I'd've listened."

"Second time?!"

"Don't worry, I was okay the first time too."

"But you might not be one time." Virgil nearly took Roman's hand before he stopped himself and clasped his hands behind his back. "And no one wants that happening to the love interest." He said, passing off his concern as anything but.

"I'll have you know, I play the main character."

Virgil rolled his eyes and smiled playfully. "If it helps you sleep at night, Princey." He laughed at Roman's face, as calm and collected as he could be. On the inside, though, it was a different story.

"God," Virgil thought, "how fucking long have I been in love with Roman?"

Aaaannnnndddd the gay bois now realise they're gay for each other. Again. Also, ignore the screaming in the background. That's Violet screaming at my use of 'bois' rather than 'boys'.
