"Is it just me or is the script going around in circles?" Roman asked.
"One, are you okay? Two,-"
"Meh, I'm fine." This didn't reassure Aaron.
"Okay... two, you're only just noticing this now?" Aaron grabbed Roman's script from him. "The dialogue's meant to be going around in circles. Because they didn't start out well and both Nathan and Elliot are strong-willed and basically idiots-"
"Uh-"
"Not academically, before you defend a fictional character. But they're basically idiots and won't admit anything so the real changes come through the songs. That's where I come in." He gave Roman his script back.
"Great. Speaking of songs... I've lost my lyrics sheet."
Aaron groaned. "Again?!"
"Sorry."
"This is your last damn chance, Roman. I only printed so many." Aaron grabbed a lyric sheet from a pile of papers near his chair. "Lose this and I'm not helping you anymore."
"Got it. Definitely won't lose this one."
"You really need to get organised."
"I am organised." Roman said.
"If you were organised, you wouldn't have lost, what was it, 7 lyric sheets?"
"5, actually." Roman said sulkily, crossing his arms.
"It's still a lot of lyric sheets. And then there's the fact that you and Virgil are arguing all the time when you're meant to be falling in love."
"Huh?"
"Your characters. They're meant to be falling in love and I don't think bickering off-stage is going to do you two any good."
"You underestimate my power, Aaron." Roman said, laughing a little. "You know the guy who played Regan in Twisted Thorns?"
"Yeah? The advisor guy?"
"Yeah, him."
"Hm. Could never remember his name."
"Anyway, the guy who played him was the sweetest guy in the world and we were best friends. Still, I had to pretend to hate him for, like, half of the film and it looked pretty convincing, right?"
"Yeah. But still, you didn't know the guy before the film. You know Virgil."
"True but you also underestimate Virgil's power to not give a shit. That coupled with my ability to act and we should be fine."
"That... that was not what I was getting at at all."
"What were you 'getting at' then?"
"Doesn't matter." Aaron said, shaking his head. "Anyway, what I'm saying is that you need to try and at least be civil with Virgil before the show opens."
"How did we get from lyric sheets to here?"
"Don't change the subject."
Roman sighed. "But Nathan and Elliot start off as enemies, don't they? So what's the problem?"
Aaron took a deep breath and tried not to lose his temper. "The problem is that this show is an hour and a half. Not days, weeks, months, however long it'd actually take the characters to fall in love. By the end of the play, you and Virgil need to be 'in love'. So get it together and be civil with him!"
Roman pouted. "I'm not the one who's starting all these arguments."
"Roman, who the fuck cares who's starting these arguments?! We're not in high school anymore, wake. Up. You participated in the argument, you need to make up for it."
"I'm not saying anything until Sunshine does."
"Oh for fuck's sake!" Aaron sighed and ran a hand down his face. "If you aren't going to accept that you need to apologise too, at least accept that you still like him."
"I don't like-"
"Then apologise to him! Either accept or apologise." Aaron crossed his arms. "Up to you, Roman."
If you think the story's going to be wrapped up by the 30 chapter mark, you are very delusioned. This one's setting it's course to be roughly as long as YNATFILWM. Which makes sense, seeing as it's a sequel. Anyway, that personal rule of not draggin everything out is getting utterly ignored. Such fun, isn't it?
Bye,
Blaize
