Fascinating (A Duskwood Fanfiction)

Chapter 1

A week after (YN) received a message from Jake; she decided to do something other than worry about him. The fact that she needs to find out where Hannah is and who her abductor is adds to her thoughts and she is not able to focus on staying calm. She now has the biggest responsibility among other people who are involved in Hannah's disappearance, she cannot just ignore it as well because many people are expecting her to help and solve this case.

She used her two weeks suspension from her current work as a privilege after Lilly uploaded the video. (YN)'s superior knew the about the video and fortunately, her boss believed her statements but it will never change the truth that some people from her work will talk and lies about her, therefore she was advised to stay out of the situation, the case in Duskwood and the stress she will get from her office. But (YN) is (YN), she can't be troubled by her own thoughts that someone is in danger and apparently she's responsible to work on with that. Another thing, Jake is one of her concerns as well; they somehow built a connection to each other that's why she must support the I Am Jake movement and keep him out of extreme danger from his pursuers.

After she went from a grocery, (YN) decided to walk in the nearby park from her house. It is just calm to walk there with trees, hearing little chats from strangers and doves around flying in the area. She sat on one of the benches in front of a fountain and absorbed the little peace she's having now, at least she forgot for a while her problems. Moments later, a kid approaches her, he doesn't look like a kid who lives in the park but maybe he was just playing around. (YN) have no idea why this kid came to her and reached a small piece of paper, totally clueless she still got the paper and the kid just ran away. She tried to call the kid again but he already disappeared. She opens the paper and there are just a few letters in it and she then proceeds on reading.

"Meet me at the back of your house. 10 p.m - J"

Just by reading it, she knew to whom the letter came from, she had already an insight that this is from Jake. She looked around the park to find any trace of him but she doesn't know who to find for she has no idea about Jake's appearance. However, she was looking forward to meeting him, she is so sure that Jake will see her despite the fact that he keeps on insisting to hide his identity or they might get into serious danger. (YN) can't tell how excited she is right now to finally see Jake and be able to know him even more.

(YN) hurriedly went to her home and prepared everything for Jake's visitation, though she believed he would only take a short time to meet her but that's not what she's actually looking forward to. After preparing she waited until 10 p.m hits the clock, it's a long wait but it didn't matter (YN).

She went in the back of her house and went straight into the woods. The location of the house is actually like a country side; her neighbors are living 15-30 meters away from hers and their town is just small yet civilized at least. Soon as she reached the almost center part of the woods, she stopped for a while and waited for the presence of someone.

Just a moment later, a man wearing a hoodie appears in her back, he is tall and he has a moderate but good physique. (YN) is quite hesitant at first to what she's looking at right now; the light from the moon is her only source to clearly see the man in her sight.

"Jake?" (YN) called. "Is that you?" she added.

The man with his hood looked up as their eyes met and with that (YN) felt the feeling of mixed excitement and worry, however as the man finally pulled down his hood and took off his mask he showed a small smile to (YN).

"Hi (YN). It's me."

It is Jake indeed, (YN) confirmed to herself. As she can tell, Jake's appearance is obviously of what she imagined about him. She can't believe that the man she used to talk through exchanged texts is now in front of her, this mysterious man who is so cautious to his identity finally showed up just to meet her.

"It is you." (YN) just said, she's out of words on how happy she is to see Jake. (YN) can't help her feeling anymore and she took a step to hug him. Jake was surprised because of what she did but later on (YN) released him and apologized for her actions.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to--"

"It's fine. I am actually glad to see you, too." Jake said to her and smiled. His voice is as well as sounds pleasing, (YN) really found him unexpected but their presence for each other is quite light, they just build a connection... more like friendship.

"Um... listen, (YN). You know that I'm still on a run and as much as possible I have to stay away from you so you don't get involved." Jake said, bringing up the real conversation why he visited (YN).

(YN) just stared in his eyes, she's starting to get disappointed at the reasons for Jake's visitation however, she's seeing different from him, by looking in his eyes. She interrupted Jake and his explanations as she tried to examine his face under the moonlight.

"I believe you found something on Hannah's cloud while I'm away. We have to discuss this matter bef--" Jake continued but (YN) stopped her.

"Jake." she said with her slightly stern voice.

"What?" he asked out of confusion on (YN)'s behavior right now.

"Have you slept?" It's an out of a blue question from (YN) but it successfully stopped Jake from reasoning.

"(YN), we don't much have tim--"

"Have you eaten, at least?"

"(YN), we have some important matters here." As Jake keeps on ignoring her questions, (YN) throws a sarcastic look on him.

"And health is important too, Mr. Hacker."

"Seriously?" Jake just can't believe she called him that way.

"Come on, follow me." (YN) then turned around, taking steps to return to her house but Jake is contradicting her behavior.

"No. This is dangerous."

(YN) stopped for a while to face Jake who however follows her in the woods but she just bumped into his chest knowing she's only at the level of his shoulders. She looked up to see his face with a smirk, he stopped (YN) then from talking.

"Look, I guarantee you everything is going to be fine. I live alone, my neighbors are thirty meters away, you came from the back of my house and there are no security cameras around. No one will know that you're here, and I can forget that once you're full and energized." she said continuously and returned to walking back to her house again.

"You don't have to do this, (YN)." he said still.

"Oh, stop being so stubborn, Jake." For the last time, she looked back at Jake and grabbed his hand to pull him toward her house. Suddenly, Jake felt his cheeks hot, he thought it's maybe his sweater but apparently it's not.

Jake cannot disagree with her because she is too insistent. He realized that (YN) is an unbelievable woman, maybe it is really important to know some people's emotions through chat from now on therefore he will be able to handle things like this one.
