WHAT WAS IT ABOUT LILY EVANS THAT MADE ME WANT HER? I mean I know at least fourteen different girls who have a crush on me, but oh how my heart wants Lily. Lily. Freaking. Evans. What was it about her? I don't know. Maybe it was the fact that she was perfect. Even more now that she was Head Girl. I couldn't get her out of my mind and even if I tried she would just worm her way back in. Not that she wants to be there in the first place. She doesn't. She made that very clear.
"Mr. James Potter," Minnie's voice break through my thoughts.
"I didn't do anything," I said, almost out of instinct. Padfoot, Moony, and Wormtail burst out laughing next to me and the rest of Gryffindor house laughs softly. I expected Lily to scoff and roll her eyes but she didn't. Instead, she let out a soft chuckle. That was new.
"Of course not," Minnie said "I was just telling everyone that you are Head Boy." Oh, I knew that. I still have the letter, scrunched up in my pocket. Call it sentimentality.
"James!?" Fredrick Hollander exclaimed "Seriously!? James Potter is our Head Boy but- no! That can't be!"
"Mr. Hollander it is true that Mr. James Potter is our Head Boy," Minnie said, her lips pursing into a thin line "It's true that Mr. Potter has more detentions than anyone-"
"Excuse me," Padfoot interrupted "But I believe I have more detentions than Pro- er- James."
"You'll get another one if you interrupt me again Mr. Black," Minnie threatened, her eyes piercing into Padfoot's soul.
"Come on Minnie," Padfoot said "You wouldn't do that to me."
"It's Professor McGonagall to you and you now have detention," Minnie said. Padfoot was about to protest but Moony covered Padfoot's mouth with his hand.
"Now, as I was saying, Mr. Potter has earned many detentions but he has an exemplary record in his studies and he is also exceptional in sports, so-"
"Headmaster Dumbledore did this and didn't tell you why, did he?" It was Moony's turn to interrupt Minnie. Poor Minnie. She was not having a good day today.
"Yes," she said, her lips becoming a thin line again "And Mr. Lupin, you may join Mr. Black in detention. Ms. Evans and Mr. Potter, I do hope you know the password to the Head's dormitory." Minnie left and everyone headed to their dorms I followed Lily out of the Gryffindor common room.
"You know Evans," I said, once we were alone in the halls "You are my sun because you are the brightest thing in my life."
Lily smiled and said, "If I'm the sun then you better stay 150 million kilometers away from me or get burned."
"You know what's 150 million kilometers away?" I countered "Paris! Maybe we could go there on a date?"
"I do admire your resilience," Lily said with a light laugh "And Paris is not 150 million kilometers away."
"So that's a yes on the date?" I said, a little too hopeful.
"No," Lily said, shaking her head "I just said I admire your resilience."
I sighed and said the password to the portrait for the Head's dorm. It was a lot different from the Gryffindor dorms. The common room was almost the same. It was maroon and gold because both Heads were from Gryffindor. There were two door on opposite sides To the right you had my room which was twice the size of my regular dorm and to the left you had Lily's room. I headed into my room to change and go to sleep. I was busy unpacking when there was a knock on my door.
"Evans, you don't have to knock if the door is already open," I said.
"Sorry," she apologized.
"You have nothing to apologize for, love, you're already perfect" I said. She sighed and rolled her eyes.
"It's comments like those that made me want to rip your head off," she mumbled loud enough for me to hear. Didn't help that my hearing was good. If one sense wasn't working well some others get heightened. For me, I was blind without my glasses, but I had exceptional hearing.
"Made? Past tense?" I asked.
"Anyway," she said, ignoring what I said "Since we have to share the Head's dorm, we have to set up a few rules."
"Okay," I drawled.
"First, curfew we both have to be in here by nine," Lily said "I'm a light sleeper and even the slightest bit of noise can wake me up."
"Yeah, sorry I can't agree to that," I said.
"Why not?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. What was I going to tell her?
"Um... because... never mind, both us here by nine," I agreed. I could always sneak out on days I needed to.
"Second no food in here," Lily said "I'm not a fan of ants or cockroaches."
"Okay, my turn," I said. I thought about it for a long time and finally said, "No Marlene or Dorcas." I wanted to spend more time with Lily, alone and having Marlene or Dorcus around will make it harder.
"Fine then, no Remus, Sirius, or Peter," Oh, she got me there.
"Fine, only Remus, Sirius, Peter, Marlene, and Dorcas are allowed," I said, shrugging "If Snivellus sets a foot here I'm hexing him."
"Trust me Snape won't be coming in here," Lily said bitterly. Oh! I was there for the m-word incident but I thought that she and him worked it out. I guess not. Good for her.
"I'm sorry," I said. I don't know what I was apologizing for but she needed to hear it.
"It's okay," she said "I'm sorry but I just can't get it out of my head. Why were you against the curfew of nine?"
"It's nothing," I said turning away from her "Just drop it."
"Okay, but if you need to talk to someone I'm always here," she tried to console.
"Thanks, but um... if I have a problem, I'd talk to Sirius or Remus or Peter about it," I said "We aren't close enough for that."
"Maybe that's something I'm willing to change," she said, turning bright red. I grinned. This was the closest Lily has gotten to flirting with me. Initially, I thought that Lily would be really angry about us sharing the head's dorm, but she genuinely wants to be friends. And some day, I hope, maybe more than that.
