JAMES AVOIDED ME FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. I tried talking to him from time to time but he just nodded and left. Every time I talk to him, it's the same thing. He sees me, nods and walks away. I get why he was cross with me but if he just talked to me maybe I could explain... something, anything.
"Still not talking to you?" Dorcas asked after James ignored me in the Great Hall. I shook my head.
"It's okay," Marlene said "It will work out. I mean you two basically live together, how long can he avoid you."
"I hope your right Mar," I said "Speaking of, how are things between you and Sirius?"
"Please don't talk about it," Marlene groaned "I'm pretty sure he doesn't like me."
"But he does!" I said.
"Then why is he so weird around me? He has no problem with other girls," Marlene complained "Let's just go to charms." The three of us got up and went to class. I sat next to Marlene and Dorcas sat behind us. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Sirius.
"Can you switch with me?" Sirius asked "I want to talk to Marlene."
"Sure," I said, getting out of my seat. I wonder what he wants to talk to Marlene about.
"Thank you," he said and quickly sat down next to Marlene. I sat in Sirius's seat and Remus sat next to me.
"Hey," Remus said.
"Hi," I greeted "You know I was surprised that you aren't sharing the Head's dorm with me." I was pretty close with Remus since we both were prefects.
"Yeah, James must have done something to earn that," Remus said "So, about that night-"
"Stop," I said, cutting him off "I don't want to know. You guys have your secrets and I respect that. You don't have to explain it if you don't want to."
"What changed your mind?" Remus asked "Two days ago you wanted to know."
"I know," I said "But now I don't. If knowing means that I'm going to lose you or James then I don't want to know."
"That's good," Remus said "We all have our secrets, Lily. Bit of advice, don't go digging into ours." I didn't say after that.
"Also, James may not say it but he is miserable," Remus said "It's killing him to ignore you."
"I know and I really am trying to get him to talk to me," I said.
"Good afternoon class," said Professor Flitwick "Shall we get started?"
**********
I had to talk to James even if he doesn't want to talk to me. I had to explain myself.
"James can I talk to you for a minute?" I asked. James didn't say anything.
"Please just hear me out," I insisted. James looked at me and raised his eyebrow.
"You guys have your secrets, I understand that," I started "I don't want to know them. I just- I was worried about you and I thought that you were doing something crazy, stupid, or illegal. I don't know what you were doing that night and I have no idea why Remus was so sick but he looks better now and I guess that's all that matters."
"You were worried about me?" James asked.
"Yes! You and the rest of your friends," I quickly added "Are we good?"
"I just have one thing to say," James said "Are you made of Copper and Tellurium because you are CuTe." I laughed at that. James had to do a lot of muggle research to find that one. At least we were back to normal now.
"Sadly, we don't have any chemistry," Like I said. We were back to normal and in normal I didn't have feelings for James. "So, we're good?" I asked.
"Yeah, we're good," he replied.
"Also, James," I said "I like you as a friend but you and me, I'm sorry but it's never going to happen."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night," he said and he disappeared behind his door. I shook my head and went into mine. Dorcas barged in after two minutes
"James talking to you?" she asked sitting down on my bed.
"Yes," I said.
"Good," she said and she lay down on my bed "I could not handle anymore boy drama." I scoffed and hit her with a pillow.
"I mean waah! James isn't talking to me! Boo-hoo! Sirius hates me!" Dorcas mocked.
"I do not sound like that, Dor," I protested "Anyway what did Sirius talk to Marlene about?"
"Nothing," Dorcas said "The moment he got one word in his brain turned to mush."
"Was it about the weather in the Great Hall again?" I said groaning.
"Nope, it was worse," Dorcas replied "Say, how long have you had Professor Flitwik?"
"Really?" I exclaimed "I didn't know Sirius was that weird around Marlene."
"Sirius? No, that was Marlene," Dorcas said. I sighed and I laid down on my bed next to her.
"Both of them are hopeless," I said.
"Are you okay?" Dorcas asked.
"Me? I'm fine. Why?" I asked, confused.
"It's just this Voldemort person, he's already killed three muggle-borns," Dorcas said "and you're a muggle-born. Aren't you worried that-"
"I might be next?" I said. Dorcas looked away and I continued "No, I'm not worried. He's just bluffing and he's not going to gain power and I'm certainly not going to die. Besides, Hogwarts is the safest place in the world after Gringotts."
"I hope your right. Well, I have to go," Dorcas said "It's getting late. See you around."
"Bye," I said and Dorcas left the room. James entered soon after.
"Hey, Lily," he said, plopping himself down on my bed "So since it is very obvious that Sirius and Marlene fancy each other, how about we help them out?"
"Like get them together?" I said "That's sounds wonderful! I can't think of a better couple!"
"I can," James said. I rolled my eyes. Was he ever going to give up? Did I want him to?
"So, it's a plan?" I said.
"It's a plan."
