Not-So-Secret Admirer -A Jily Story

Part 9- James

WE WAITED TILL THE MINISTRY REPRESENTATIVE LEFT HIS OFFICE. He was here 'to see if Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry was up to date and running smoothly'. Wormtail, Padfoot, Moony and I knew it was a load of bullshit. The Ministry just wanted to keep a close eye on the students of Hogwarts, I've also seen a couple of Aurors around. I covered my mouth to make sure I wasn't breathing too heavily under the cloak. He finally left the office and Wormtail and I snuck in before the door closed.

"What are we looking for?" Wormtail said.

"Anything that explains why the ministry is at Hogwarts," I said. Peter rummaged through the desk and I looked through a file cabinet. The bottom one wouldn't open. I used the unlocking charm and the cabinet flew open.

"What did you find?" Wormtail asked.

"It's a bunch of files, and a list," I answered. I took the list and studied it and Wormtail looked at the files. "These are Lily's parents," I said, recognizing the names which were third on the list. They were crossed off along with many other names. Along with the names their addresses were also listed. Were they dead or just missing?

"Those are Veronica Williams's parent's," Wormtail said, pointing to the seventh item "And those are Evan Green's."

"So... what? The ministry is just kidnapping random people?" I said.

"Not just random people, muggles," Wormtail said "And not just random muggles. Muggles, with children who are witches of wizards."

"Do the files mention this?" I asked. Wormtail shook his head.

"It's worse! The Ministry has complete detail files of students," Wormtail said, handing me the stack.

"Yeah, so? It is a school after all," I said.

"No, you don't understand," Wormtail said "It's not all the students, it's just a few. There is file about me and you, Remus, Sirius."

"And Lily, Marlene, Dorcas," I said as I listed the names on the file "Alice, Frank, Edgar Bones, Dedalus Diggle, Caradoc Dearborn, Sturgis Podmore. Some of these people don't even go to Hogwarts anymore." I skimmed through the rest of them with looking inside. There were many names. Some of them were from Dumbledore's time at Hogwarts.

"Why does the Ministry have these?" Wormtail asked. I didn't have time to answer. The door knob rattled and Wormtail and I raced to put the files back and get under my cloak. The door opened and the Ministry representative walked in along with Headmaster Dumbledore.

"I assure you the Ministry has the situation under control," he said. He had an unusual voice. It sounded like he was talking with his nose pinched.

"It might be better if the students were made aware of the severity of the situation, Mr. Candwall." Dumbledore said.

"I am under strict orders from the Minister himself. The students must not know or it will create chaos," Mr. Candwall said "It would be disastrous if anyone came to find out about this."

"Including the students which in your exact words 'need protection along with their families'?" Dumbledore urged.

"Especially them," Mr. Candwall said "And I have your approval to continue with the plan and your trust that you will not repeat this to anyone."

"My only objection is that the students need to know but we both know how you feel about that," Dumbledore said, calmly "I will let you be, have a good evening." Wormtail and I exited when Dumbledore did and made our way to my dorm. In the commotion of getting the files in on time, I forgot to keep the list back. I didn't realize it until I found it in my pocket.

"We have to go back and put this away," I said, showing Wormtail the list.

"Have you gone mad?" Wormtail exclaimed "We'll surely be caught if we show up with that in our hands! Just keep it with you for now and we'll go put it back later." He left my room and I put the list in my chocolate frog collection, right between Dumbledore and Helga Hufflepuff. Lily knocked on my door after a while.

"How many times am I supposed to tell you that if my door is open, don't knock," I said.

"Yeah, sorry," she said "I just wanted to ask where you were all day."

"I told you, I was helping Peter with something," I said.

"Find any thing interesting?" she asked. I hesitated for a moment.

"Yeah," I said. I showed her the list. She furrowed her eyes as she read through it. "I had to something crazy, stupid and illegal to get this."

"That's fine but why are some names crossed off?" she asked. I just shrugged. "Have you shown this to Headmaster Dumbledore?"

"He knows about this," I answered "He doesn't want students to know. I mean, he does but the Ministry person told him not to tell the students." I heard the portrait door swing open. Lily and I went outside to see who it was. Headmaster Dumbledore was looking around the Head's dorm.

"Ah, I seem to have startled you," Dumbledore said "You'll have yo forgive me. It's been a while since the head's dorm was decorated with one house's color and even longer since it was just Gryffindor colors."

"Can we help you Headmaster?" I asked.

"I believe you have something that belongs to Mr. Candwall," Dumbledore said. I stiffened. How did he know that I was there. "I suggest you keep it with you," he continued "Wouldn't want that to fall into the wrong hands, now would we?"

"No sir," I said. Dumbledore smiled "Well, I'll let you get back to whatever you were doing before I interrupted your evening." He bid us good-bye and left the room. I didn't say anything until he left the room.

"How did he know?" I asked. Lily shrugged.

"Dumbledore knows everything," Lily said "The Voldemort situation is getting worse and worse everyday. Even the Ministry is afraid now."

"What does the Ministry want with all of your parents?" I asked "More importantly, are they safe?"

A/N: This chapter was originally supposed to be the whole plot but I came up with a better plot so now this is kind of a side plot. That's it and like always vote and comment and please check my grammar, spelling and facts!!
