"Joe! Come sit down so we can sing happy birthday to you!"

Joe froze in his tracks on his way to sit by his friends and lunch, smiled, and slowly began to back up. Sage groaned and stood up, walking towards him, prompting Oliver to giggle and cover his mouth.

"Please don't sing happy birthday to me," Joe asked as Sage grabbed his arm, beginning to lead him over to their usual table.

"Fineee, you're so boring."

Joe sat down, pushing his lunch tray aside as Sage brought out a small container of four chocolate cupcakes, still in their store-bought container. Joe grinned and made grabby hands towards them.

"Y'all are the best."

"Happy birthday!" Oliver clapped his hands excitedly. He wrapped his arms around Joe in a quick hug, and Joe's face grew three times redder that day.

"U-Uh, thank you, Oli. Oh- who's gonna eat the extra cupcake?"

"Whoever finishes their's first," Sage smirked. "Or we could just try and split it in three, I dunno."

"We could all make a grab for it and whoever gets it, gets it, maybe."

"I think splitting it up would be fair. Oh yeah, did you get any presents yet? Or singular, present? I'm still waiting to see that cool soccer mom look of yours," Oliver grinned.

"Haha. But no, I haven't yet, I think my parents are giving me stuff after school."

"Also I might have accidentally left your card at home, so... sorry."

"You're good, don't worry. You can just give it to me later."

"Wait, before we leave the topic of your parents-" Sage leaned in closer to both his friends, lowering his voice a tiny bit, "Joe, has your dad showed any signs of being attracted to serial killers as of late?"

"Holy shit- Sage! No! I thought we left that topic behind yesterday."

"What? It's a valid question, dude."

Oliver giggled again, and Joe sighed. "...Well, I did try to ask them about it last night but as soon as I said the guy's name, my dad cut me off and asked my father what he wanted for dinner... so..."

Both of Joe's friends went silent, eyebrows furrowing a bit.

"...That's really weird," Oliver slowly mumbled. Sage shrugged.

"Eh, yeah, but I think that's all the proof we need to prove he did date him."

"I-"

And so, the three of them ate their cupcakes, Sage eventually dropping the thing with Joe's dad and talking about Joe's zodiac chart, since that was something Sage had been interested in for a bit less than a year at this point. He had a lot of interests that came and went, but honestly, this one had lasted the longest. Before long they all agreed to split up the fourth cupcake, and when the bell rang, the three left the lunch room, luckily being able to walk a bit together before Oliver had to separate from Sage and Joe to go to a different class.

"Wait, so, coming back to that your dad thing, Joe-" Sage began, prompting Joe to roll his eyes, "do you know what highschool your parents went to?"

"Nope. I mean, I think we've both observed that my parents won't talk about their highschool experience and your parents won't say anything about my parents during that time. It's sorta secretive."
