NOT THAT SOON AFTER

I stood against a wall flipping a knife into the air and catching it as I looked at the table occupied by Captain Rogers, Stark, Commander Hill, and Director Fury. "These were in Phil Coulson's jacket." Fury said holding up some cards. "I guess he never did get you to sign them." He added tossing the cards to Captain Rogers. They were covered in blood as Rogers picked one up and looked at it. It was a Captain America card, vintage set. "We're dead in the air up here. Our communications, the location of the Cube, Banner, Thor...I got nothing for you. I lost my one good eye." Fury explained. "Maybe I had that coming." He added leaning against the table. "Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number, though, because I was playing something even riskier." Fury stated. "There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to being together a group of remarkable people, to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea. In heroes." Fury stated before Stark stood up and walked away. "Well, it's an old-fashioned notion." Fury voiced before I caught the knife in my hand and walked away. "I'm no hero." I told Fury before leaving. "No, but I remember a time when you used to be. You were a soldier. And a good one." Fury called out. "Yeah, and look how good that turned out." I stated before leaving.

I wandered the corridors of the ship before coming across Stark and Rogers talking about Loki. "He wants an audience." Stark announced. "Right. I caught his act in Stuttgart." Rogers stated. "Yeah, that's just previews. This is opening night. And Loki, he's a full-tilt diva. He wants flowers, he wants parades. He wants a monument built to the skies with his name plastered..." Stark paused for a moment before realizing something. "Son of a bitch." Tony said before hurrying out of the room passed me and Rogers. The two of us shared a look with each other before looking back at Tony and following after him.

I walked into a room with Rogers in full uniform. I found Natasha inside. "Time to go." Rogers announced. "Go where?" She asked. "I'll tell you on the way. Can you fly one of those jets?" He told her before a door opened and Barton exited the restroom. "I can." Barton said. I shared a look with Romanoff before she nodded her silent, confirming his allegiance. I looked back at Barton. "You got a suit?" I asked him. "Yeah." Barton answered. "Then suit up." Cap stated before walking out. I looked at Romanoff before looking between her and Barton. I backed up before turning on my heel and leaving the two agents.

I stood in front of a black case that I brought onto the helicarrier and opened it. Inside were two katanas made of Vibranium. I grabbed them twirling them around before sheathing them on my back. I held up my Desert Eagles and checked the ammo before holstering them. I sheathed both Escrima sticks above my waist behind my back. I looked at the dark mask. I slipped it on before slamming the case closed and putting up the hood of the suit. I walked out of the room meeting up with Romanoff, walking beside her. I noticed her look me over. "Must be comfy." She voiced. "You'd be surprised." I said before joining up with Cap and Barton. The four of us entered the hangar bay before walking onto a Quinjet. An agent was seen inside stopping any entry. "Hey, you aren't authorized to be here--" He started. "Son--just don't." Cap told him. The agent looked around at us before lingering on me. "Boo." I voiced. The agent jumped before scrambling out of the jet. The others looked at me unamused. "What? Am I not allowed to have any joy in my life?" I asked sarcastically taking a seat. The voice modulator built into my mask modified my voice to sound deeper and slightly mechanical. I leaned my forearms against my knees before the jet took off.
