It isn't long before I hear footsteps in the hallway, and he immediately places me down, us both aware of the approaching sounds.
I turn my head, and I see Nico standing at the end of the hallway, his blue eyes staring at us, mouth wide open.
He saw us.
He's already running up to us, and I take a step behind Scott, but he doesn't say anything. When he finally comes up to us, he goes behind Scott, grabs my hand, and then tugs me to the other side of the lockers, where Scott can't hear us. He put both of his hands on my shoulders, and turned me around to where I'm facing him.
"Daniel, what the hell is going on?" Nico beamed at me with his captivating eyes. "Are you... Are you gay?" He asked dramatically, and I could see his cheeks beginning to blush a little. All I could do was give him a little nod. His eyebrows arched upwards, as he took one of his hands off my shoulder, and up to his hair to scratch it.
"Aw jeez," he said, still looking at me. I was leaning back from him. His eyes then moved to the other side, "Well.. I can respect you for your sexuality, believe me we're cool," he assured, "But.. But why with him?" He put emphasis on the him. This made me a little mad, because Scott had never done anything to him. Why did 'he' suddenly have to be re-clarified?
"You two aren't going out, are you?" He asked. "No, we aren't, well technically, we are, but we're keeping it a secret." I looked up at him, and whimpered a little, "Please don't tell anybody, Nico." He pursed his lips, making sure that I knew what I was doing, even though I already knew, and released his grip from me. "Alright then, just, be careful okay?" He said.
We walked back to Scott, who was still standing in the same spot, eyes wide open as he watched us come back. We stood around each other, it was awkward for a bit, I hadn't hoped for Nico to see me with him, hell I haven't even thought about him, but things happen. "Hi, my name is Nico," the blonde said, giving a weak smile, holding his hand out open in front of Scott.
"I know," Scott replied with a deep voice, refusing to shake his hand. Nico slowly pulled his hand back, and his smile turned into a frown. He looked at me worriedly, and all I could do was toss him a weak smile. Scott wasn't mad at anyone, he couldn't be mad at anyone; he just needed to time to make friends with people. We still had a little less than an hour to hang around in the morning, so why not use this time to patch up loose ends?
I shot Scott a look, telling him to not be mean, and to be nice, and he pouted his lips. I wanted to kiss him again after he did that, but it would be even more awkward than before. Scott sighed, and then spoke, "So, Nico.. What kind of sports do you play?"
"Golf," he replied. "Yeah.. You good at it?"
"It's okay. What about you?"
"I don't play any sports, sadly."
"Aw, why not?"
"Eh, I've never been good at sports, like I tried out for basketball one time..." And then he continued talking. After a while of talking, I joined into their conversation, and it seemed as if we were already friends. We were all laughing at how Scott got a bruise on the back of his head once when he tried to hit the ball back over the net in tennis.
Just then, the bell rang, and then we decided we should head for class. We walked together, as a group, talking and laughing. Some kids stopped and pointed at us, their eyes wide. They weren't used to seeing the social outcast out and talking with friends. This was going to be a good change for Scott, I know it.
...
Lunch finally came around, and I decided to sit with Daniel for once, instead of at our usual table. Nico was eager to join us, even though it would only be three of us sitting at a circular table, but we could still chat and laugh. During my first few periods, I felt Brianna glancing up at me every now and then, even though I didn't talk to her. I was still deciding whether or not I should report her for what she did.
"Oh man, I can't wait for this lock-in, it's going to be gnarly!" Nico shouted.
Me and Scott both looked at him, our faces just ready to burst into laughter. Gnarly? Who, what, was this the '80s or something? We couldn't help it, and we burst into laughter, and he did too. Something made me want to tell Nico about what Brianna did, but I decided against it. It wasn't any of his business, and I'm sure he wouldn't care anyways.
Besides, she's learned her lesson now, Scott said he slapped the shit out of her, so she should know her place. After we were finished eating lunch, we spent practically the rest of our time deciding on what we were going to bring. We could bring any of our electronics, consoles, anything. Scott said that he would bring his XBOX, and some controllers for all of us to play. Nico said that he'd bring some of his XBOX games to play.
I would bring a tent for us to sleep in, since we'd all be sleeping in the gymnasium, we could bring blankets and pillows and everything. The lock-in would start around the evening, when night time would already be approaching, so unless we were going to party all night, why not bring a tent so we could pretend it was like camp?
The bell rang, and we all headed back to our classes. Brianna followed behind us, at a distance with her other friends. The feeling of her glancing up at me every now and then just crepeed me out even more. What did she want from me?
...
School ended after the rest of the periods passed, and we all walked out. Nico waved us goodbye, and said he'd see us later for sure. I was planning on waiting for my mum to get here, so I could go home and pack my stuff, but Scott intervened.
"I can drive you home," he suggested, smiling as we walked towards his car.
"But, my mum has the house keys," I replied.
"Oh," he stopped in his tracks. We were already at his car, and I was looking at him curiously. "Well, you can come to my house, and we can hang out until she gets home or something."
He unlocked the doors to his car, and we both stepped in. I got inside the passengers seat, right across from him like before, and strapped myself in the seatbelt. He turned the wheel and pushed the gas, as we pulled out of the school parking lot.
"She won't get home until late though," I replied again.
"Wait, so you won't have time to get anything?" He asked.
"I'm only bringing the tent, remember? And it's in our backyard, I can just hop over the fence and get it. "But, man, what about your clothes?" he asked lazily, eyeing me up and down, half-paying attention to the road. "Don't you need to bring pajamas or something?"
"Oh, I can just sleep in this," I suggested, looking at myself. It was going to be uncomfortable, but I could stand it. "Nah," he waved his hand. What?
"We'll get you some clothes at my house," he grinned. Wearing his clothes was going to be challenge, although pajamas could be a bit more general to wear.
And since he wears dark clothes, I smirked back, knowing he was only doing this so he could see how sexy I looked in them.
