"What, memory erasure operation?" My mouth was open wide as I stared at Daniel's mother. Nico's mouth was open wide as well, and his eyebrows were slanted with fear. "What are you talking about, Mrs. Bullei?"

"I-It's a long story, I'll explain later," she said, still crying, already advancing towards the school. Nico and I were tailing behind her, and within a matter of minutes, we went inside and reached the nurse's office. There, I saw Daniel was still sitting on the bed, not even awoken yet, and the nurse was sitting in on a plastic chair beside him, watching him carefully, and pitifully. Her eyes widened when she saw the three of us enter. "Oh, Mrs. Bullei, thank goodness you're here."

She darted her eyes towards us nervously, "And they're here too," she sighed. "Boys, I know he is a very important friend to you, but you aren't supposed to be here right now," she tried to get us to leave.

"Yes, I fucking know that, but I need to hear her explanation, I'm tired of being kept in the shadows" I snapped, looking at his mother. They all looked at me in surprise, and Nico inched towards me, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Dude, chill," he whispered, and I realized I just cussed in front of adults.

"No, he's right," Daniel's mother sighed, and she sat down on one of the grouped plastic chairs, and we both sat down with her. The nurse eyed her softly.

"Do you three need a minute?" She asked carefully. "No, we're fine, you may stay," Daniel's mother allowed. She nodded her head slowly, and went back to her desk to continue working on paperwork. Although she was working, she tried to keep her ears keen on the conversation we were about to have.

"Alright boys, Scott," she wiped the rest of the tears from her face, "My first name is Sarah, and I am Daniel's mother. We originally lived in France with his father, Mike, and he went to a school there. Back then he didn't have any friends, but then he met you, Scott, and he made great friends with you. You two honestly seemed like the perfect group of friends, you would hang out together all the time, do activities together all the time, everything I could think of. I made great friends with your father while you two were becoming friends, and I even went to work at the same place with him. Unfortunately, one day, you hit Daniel while he was at school, and I don't know if it was by accident or not, but judging by the punch, his afterwards condition was serious. I don't know what happened to him, he was going through a lot of emotional trauma, and we couldn't get him to calm down. I tried taking him to doctors, but they only suggested one thing, which was memory erasure. I'd be lying if I said I accepted the operation right away, because I didn't. I know, erasing my own baby's memories, it's horrible, and I'm a horrible mother for doing it. But, I couldn't stand to see him in his current state, he kept crying and saying things like 'Scott hates me,' and 'Why does everyone hate me?' and I couldn't let it go on any longer. At first, I tried therapy with him, but it wouldn't work, everytime he came back to school to see you, he'd just fall into his same emotional state of trauma again. That's when I decided that I was plain out of options, so I just took the memory erasing procedure. At the time, I immediately starting making plans and packing bags to leave Europe, because I knew if we stayed there any longer, it'd only mean trouble. When you found out that his memory was erased, you hated me, and then you wanted to take Daniel for yourself, but I couldn't let you see Daniel again. So, your father and I decided that we'd erase your memories of Daniel as well, and both operations were a success. You no longer knew about Daniel, and Daniel no longer knew about you. His father was the one who bought us our passports so we could travel to America, so I ended up taking them and traveling there. I had to make up some kind of lie to him about why we left Europe, saying that it was his father's fault so he wouldn't suspect me for doing anything to him, and I hated myself for it, but I had to do it. I didn't think that you would come back to America, in the same city as well, but it happened. I just, I just honestly can't believe that this is happening again, I thought this was all behind us, and that we could start a new peaceful life here again, but... It just didn't work out. I'm sorry."

She took a heavy exhale, and I stood up to go pat her on the back to help her breath. This was too much information to take in, and I could already feel my tears flowing down my cheeks. Nico's eyes were fully wide, and he just stood there beaming at her in shock. I turned to look at the nurse, and she was giving us a shocked expression as well. She wasn't even working on her paperwork anymore, she had a pen in hand and was staring at us anxiously. The office was silent for a while, until I went back to sit down on my chair.

I didn't know whether she was telling a lie or not, but they way she said it made it seem like she was telling me the truth. My dad had previously told me that we originally went to Europe as a vacation with our mother, and we were planning to stay there once we saw that it was in our budget, and jobs were naturally easy to find around there. However, much later, where my memory is currently scrambled right now, he told us that we had to move back to America with no questions asked. I was confused and I didn't know what was going on, and when we got on the airplane, I didn't even see my mother. He said that she had an accident, and that she died unexpectedly while I was asleep one night, and living in that country just wasn't affordable anymore, so we had to leave.

I do remember one person from France during our stay, one of my only friends who later turned out to be the love of my life, but the only thing I couldn't remember was the times we spent together, and most importantly: his name.

Now I know, and now I understand. His name was Daniel; he was my boyfriend, my baby, the one who I could call mine, and that he'd have mutual respect towards. Now I can understand, that this horrible woman that Daniel calls his 'mum', took him away from me, and even though I shouldn't rush to anger right now, I can't help it.

My eyes were filled with rage towards her, and I was about to open my mouth to cuss the living shit out of her, but that's when I heard some stumbling coming from one of the beds. All of our eyes immediately darted to the bed with Daniel laying on it, and we say that he was sitting straight up. His hair was messy, and his glasses were sat on the table. His eyes were dark, and they looked lifeless as they stared at his mother.

"D-Daniel, sweetheart," she started, getting up from her chair, and moving towards him.

"I heard everything," he blurted out. Our eyes widened in surprise as his facial expression didn't change at all. I couldn't figure out what kind of emotions he was feeling right now, which grew fear inside of me.

"W-What?" She mumbled, her eyebrows furrowing.

"I heard everything, mum. I know now what you did to me."

And at the end, he reached his hand out and placed it above where it heart was, and gripped his shirt tightly, as if there were an empty, gaping hole in place of it, causing pain to his very existence.
