"I'm sorry, who is this?" she replied to the text. Immediately she got a response. It was Harry, Louis's friend. He evidently stole her number from his phone. Harry was quite interesting. He was funny and fakingly cocky, like Lou, but Lou was funnier and acted cuter and made her heart swell, and- oh shut up, Bella told herself. He was very nice. Bella knew from when Lou talked about his past, that he and Harry were close. But she found out from Harry that they were inseparable.
Harry was very nice, and Bella became very close to him through text. He had a girlfriend named Skylar, and Harry was very happy. They didn't tell Lou that they texted eachother, though. It was kinda funny, and they wanted to surprise him by knowing eachother so well.
As the weeks past, Bella's life was getting better. She started observing her father's schedule. When he would be passed out, when he was gone, and when he was awake and home. She loved her father, she really did, but she learned that sometimes the ones you love, they make your life a living hell, like when her mum died. She loved her mum, but when she died, her life was terrible.
Bella started busying herself with things. When her father wasn't home, she had started to sweep, pick up empty beer bottles, paint the outside of the house, and garden. And during the weekdays, when he was home, she'd go to the store and get groceries. If she felt down during the week, she would text Harry, and he'd cheer her up.
But she was always at her best when she was with Louis. They would meet every weekend at the park. It became 'their place'. "Hey stranger." Bella smirked as she walked towards the messy haired boy sitting on the grass.
He looked up, his face beaming up at her. "Hey, darlin'." He said as he pulled her down to face him in his lap. And Bella rested her head on his forehead. "So how's this week been treating you?" Bella breathed in. His breath smelled minty and sweet. Bella leaned in even farther, their lips barely touching. She wanted him to kiss her and feel his minty, beautiful breath in her mouth. She snapped out of it.
"Crap." She faked a laughed, pulling her head back. She tried to act like nothing happened. "But I got an A+ last Thursday on a test!"
"That's awesome Bella!" He said, partially stunned. Did they almost kiss? Lou thought he was imagining things, he wished they kissed... "You're improving!"
"Well, thanks to you." She shrugged, smiling. "You helped me study."
"True." He nodded. "I am a genius, after all."
She giggled, pushing him gently. "Sure." They sat there in a comfortable silence. It was never awkward between them. Through the weeks they had been getting closer and were best friends. The type of boy-girl best friends everyone wished they could have. With forehead and cheek kisses, I love you's, they could hold hands when they wanted to, and it would mean nothing. It would be absolutely normal to them.
At least they acted like it was normal. Because what Louis didn't know, was that Bella's stomach would backflip everytime they were close. And little did Bella know, Louis felt the same way.
But they brushed it off. They always did.
"Bella?" Lou asked, hesitantly, through the silence.
"Yes, Lou?"
"My mom wanted me to ask if you'd like to come to dinner tonight. You don't have to come if you don't want. My mom just-"
Bella pecked Lou on the cheek, stopping him from rambling on. "Okay!" she said cheerily.
"Okay, you'll come?" Louis said, looking into Bella's eyes, hopefully.
"Okay, I'll come!" Bella laughed.
