It had been exactly two weeks, one day, and one and a half hours since Bella had first met Lou...not that either of them had been keeping track or anything...
Lou went to the park every day, searching for Bella. Maybe Bella didn't like him, Lou thought. Maybe she was avoiding him. Well Lou was right about the second thing, but not for the reasons he thought. Bella had been so scared of seeing Lou again, that she avoided the park at all costs. She was so scared that Lou might be mad for her running away. It was such a childish thing to do.
It was Sunday, and Bella laid on her bed, thinking about the events of the past two week.
Bella was still getting teased at school, her father still drank, nothing new. She felt guilty that Wednesday when she cut herself again, feeling as she had betrayed Louis.
She cried as the cold metal hit her skin, pushing against it. She bit her lip, trying to shake away the tears. "I'm so sorry, Lou." She kept muttering to herself, her voice cracking.
She tried going out, but her father always seemed to be right outside her door. Maybe today could be different. Bella stood up from bed and pressed her ear against the door, hearing for any sign of her dad. None.
Bella took this as an opening and ran right out the door. She took a deep breath as the sun hit her face. It really was a beautiful day. She walked along the side walk. Today, Bella decided to go somewhere she hadn't in nine years. She had been avoiding it ever since her mother passed away.
It took her awhile to walk to the other side of town, but she made it. Bella found herself standing at the entrance of the cemetery. She found herself walking the grounds which kept so many lost lives. Even though Bella had never been there, she found the grave in no time. She had skipped the funeral. She didn't want to see that the only memory of her mother was a rock. It was stupid. She deserved a garden, a palace in memory.
Bella sat in front of her mother's grave, curled up in a ball and read the grave stone.
"Hazel Nightshade.
July 19, 1969- June 12, 2000
Loving mother, friend, and wife."
Her father must have picked that out, it was boring, and sounded like her father.
Underneath Bella read the words'
"A little thing at the moment, but soon it'll be the sunshine of your day."
Now, that was her mother's doing. She knew it was, maybe it was in her will for that to be on her grave, but it was definitely her mother's words.
Sobs escaped Bella as she read the quote over and over again. To Bella, Hazel was the 'sunshine' of her life, and to Hazel was Bella. Bella's mind wandered back to her childhood...
Bella could almost feel her mother's arms wrap around her, singing 'their' song...
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. So please don't take my sunshine away."
But they did. They took Bella's sunshine away. Never to be seen again...
Bella rocked back and forth, hugging her knees. She could remember their days out, where they would go around for ice cream, or a fun day in the park. And at the end of the day, she would remember her leaning down to kiss her forehead and whisper an "I love you."
It's been awhile since she'd heard that. Nine years, actually. Not even her father would say it. Not even once.
She continued to hide her face under her arms and cry when suddenly something soft brushed up against her leg. Bella's head shot up to find a black and white cat, snuggling against her. She gave a weak smile as she brought down her hand to pet it.
"Molly!" She heard a familiar voice yell. "Molly, come back!"
