Chapter 8

A few weeks passed, and Yuri became quite close to the 12 boys. They also found out that Yuri was really smart and had a great sense of humour. She became especially close to Yedam, Yoshi, Junkyu, and Jihoon.

One afternoon, while doing homework with Jaehyuk, Yuri heard shouts in the corridor outside her room. She rushed out, followed by Jaehyuk.

She saw Jiwon with Hyunsuk, the two looking extremely grave.

"What do you mean?" Hyunsuk asked with a worried voice.

"It's true. She has come back."

"But she died. We saw her die."

"I know, I'm confused too."

Hyunsuk opened his mouth to say something, but saw Yuri then stopped. 

"Hey, guys, what's up?" Yuri broke the awkward silence.

"Nothing. Just discussing important things. You can go back to what you were doing."

The boy said this with an unusual sheepishness, which made Yuri suspicious.

"Important? Like what?" Curiosity rose in her.

Before Hyunsuk could reply, Jiwon butted in:

"Not your business."

Yuri frowned and turned to Jiwon, gave him a "geez calm down, dude" look, and said:

"I wasn't talking to you."

Jiwon glared and was about to say something when Jaehyuk came from behind Yuri.

"It's time we tell her, don't you think?"

"Not yet, Jaehyuk." Hyunsuk gestured him to go away, but the latter disobeyed.

Jiwon looked at his watch and said, "Well, I don't have time for arguing. I trust you boys to explain it to her properly."

He smiled a very professional smile, then continued, "Now, if you will please excuse me, I have to go attend to more important things right now."

He turned around and walked away.

"What is going on?" Yuri was very puzzled.

"It's a long story. Let's go to the living room, I'll tell you there," Hyunsuk replied.

"So, what is the story?"

The others were there too. They gathered around her, and Hyunsuk answered her question.

"There is a cave in the forest behind the Academy, and in the cave is a sacred pool–"

"Sacred?!" laughed Yuri, making Hyunsuk widen his eyes.

"Listen! The pool contains golden liquid, and if you drink it, you become immortal."

Yuri rolled her eyes, "Nonsense."

Haruto cried, "He's not lying, noona! If our powers can exist, anything can."

Hyunsuk continued, "Once you drink the liquid, you can't exit the island."

"Why not?"

"You die. About a year ago, Jiwon hyung found out his wife, Jisoo noona, drank that liquid. Actually, that liquid fuels the island, whose magic keeps the Earth alive. Jisoo noona became really greedy, and wanted all that power herself, so she tried to kill us."

"Why you guys?"

"Because we are kind of like the guardians of this planet. She thought that if we were alive, we would try to stop her. So, when she attacked us, Jiwon hyung protected us. We couldn't fully use our powers correctly cuz we were still training. Jiwon hyung tried to convince Jisoo noona, but she didn't listen. So, he trapped her in the basement, and two days later, he found her dead body in there. All he let us see was a river of blood."

"But now she's back, and we fear that it's not for us. She's come for you," Junkyu said with an unusually grave voice.

"For me?"

"You are special, that's why," Asahi told her.

Before Yuri could react, Doyoung explained, "Jiwon hyung brought you here because he wanted to make sure you weren't in danger."

"Anyways, let's not talk about this anymore. I'm sure Jiwon hyung will figure something out," Jeongwoo assured her, sensing her worries.

"But she's here because of me. I just put you all in danger," Yuri mumbled, feeling guilty.

"Don't worry Yuri-ah. You aren't the cause of this. It's her fault." Jihoon patted the younger girl's back.

He signaled Jaehyuk. The latter nodded.

"Come on, Yuri-ah. We haven't finished our homework yet."

She got up and went to her room, followed by Jaehyuk.

That evening, at dinner, Yuri was extremely quiet. This scared the others, as she normally cracked a lot of jokes and chattered about how her day went.

Yedam was really concerned, and, after dinner, he asked her if she was okay. All she said was "Uh huh".

She was tidying up her studying desk, when she heard a knock on her door.

She opened it to see Jihoon, looking worried.

"Hey, you okay?" she asked.

"I should ask you that. You hardly said a word at dinner."

"I'm absolutely OK."

"Don't worry your head off. Now that we can use our powers, Jisoo noona is not really a threat." He gave her a warm smile.

"Good night, Yuri-ah."

"You too."
