When Taehyung woke up the next morning-early morning sunlight just beginning to peek through the curtains-you were still sound asleep in the bed beside him.
He took a moment to study your face, relaxed completely in sleep, and allow himself to run gentle, soft fingers through the tangled strands of your hair.
Shit, you were beautiful.
Taehyung stifled a smile, as you mumbled beneath your breath and shifted in the bed, fingers blindly burying their way into the front of his loose t-shirt. He knew you weren't aware of what you were doing, but he liked that you looked for him-even in sleep.
Carefully sliding out from beneath the covers, he held his breath to see if he had woken you, but when you didn't move-your breathing remaining deep and even-he grabbed his phone from the nightstand and quietly exited the bedroom.
Glancing down at the screen of his phone, Taehyung noticed that it was odd for him to be up this earlier on a Sunday, but when he heard the sounds of stirring and talking drifting down the hallway, he suddenly knew what had woken him up.
Pushing open the cracked door to the room where Leo had slept, he glanced inside, to see the little boy-curls messy from sleep-sitting up in the playpen, happily playing with his blankets as he waited for someone to retrieve him.
Taehyung paused momentarily in the doorway.
Leo had never met him, and he was worried how he would react, but stepping inside the room softly, he let a smile curl up his lips as the toddler stopped what he was doing and stared at him across the room with wide dark eyes.
"Hey, buddy." Taehyung hedged gently, taking a few more slow steps toward the playpen the boy occupied. He gave a little wave of his fingers. "Hey Leo. I'm Taehyung."
The little boy didn't move as he warily watched Taehyung walk toward him.
"I know you don't know me-" Taehyung felt silly continuing to talk to himself, but he kept it up, glad that the little boy was crying at the sight of a stranger just yet. "But I'm a friend of your auntie's."
At the word, Leo's eyes brightened, and he perked up, clapping his hands as he repeated back happily, "Auntie!"
"Yeah! Yeah!" Taehyung praised, crouching down beside the playpen and the child as he flashed him a grin. Something about the kid made his chest feel warm and he wasn't sure what to think of it yet. He motioned with his head toward the hallway. "Auntie is here, but she's still sleeping. She was really tired."
Leo cocked his head, listening intently to Taehyung's words, and then surprised him, by standing up and reaching out for him. "Want out."
"You want out?" Taehyung parroted back, surprised that that was all it had taken to win over the little boy. After a brief moment of hesitation, he reached into the playpen and scooped Leo into his arms.
Leo studied him for a moment up close, and then he reached out and patted Taehyung's cheeks with tiny hands, and a grin revealed his growing teeth, as he exclaimed proudly, "'Yung Auntie's friend!"
Taehyung couldn't help the boxy grin that spread across his own face at the boy's words. He bounced him playfully, as they headed back toward the open door of the room. "That's right! Good boy, Leo. Taehyung is Auntie's friend. You're very smart."
Taehyung carried the boy down the long hallway and to the stairs that led to the main floor, careful to watch his footing as they descended, so as not to slip and hurt the child sitting contentedly on his hip.
When they reached the landing, Taehyung heard Leo's stomach growl noisily, startling them both.
He reached out, tousling the boy's dark, unruly curls, as he turned in the direction of the kitchen. "Are you hungry, Leo?"
