Eternal Life ( Mephisto x Reader )

23. Chaos

   The whole Academy was on fire. Everybody was screaming. The alarm had just started ringing, and yet it was already too late to save the place. Campus was coloured red. As I looked through the window, all I could see was buildings lit up like matches. And soon, they would all fall. 

   I could not believe that my first night with Mephisto had ended this way. I preferred my clock to wake me up, not the goddamn fire alarm. 

   Everyone in the corridor was panicking. I started looking for Nako, but soon realised I would not find anyone. Besides, I had already lost Mephisto when he had run off to the city. Which was harmed too. It was chaos. Students just aimlessly ran back and forth. There were too many people. Way too many people. I had forgotten the Academy extended beyond a dozen exwires. 

   I illuminated my tail and shouted for attention. Everyone turned to me ; that was a good start. 

- All right, everyone, calm down, I ordered, imperturbable. Let's all relax and leave. Nobody's in danger as long as I'm here. 

   I shined brighter, lighting the corridor. I was taking a risk ; most students in the building were no exorcists. There was a large chance they would be frightened. That I would frighten them. 

   I sighed in relief as everybody took it on themselves to remain calm. They were just too shocked to notice anything beyond immediate danger. Perfect. People slowed down and left the dorm walking.

- Fine ! See, everybody's fine, I declared as everyone was outside. Now, follow the river and get out of the Academy.

- Miss, how are we supposed to do so without your light ? A teenage girl asked.

   I stared at the hundred students in front of me. They were afraid ; they were still panicking. But  they had listened to me.

- Everything will be alright, I forced a convincing smile. Just don't look back.

   I turned around and looked up at the Academy. As for me... I had to go back.

   There were dozens and dozens of buildings in the Academy. I figured Mephisto and the other exorcists were already helping ; so did I. I had already saved the second-years from my dorm. Well, I hoped so. I wanted to know where Mephisto was, but I knew there were more important matters at hand ; he could take care of himself better than I could, anyway.

   The next dorm was as messy as mine. There, I met Shiemi and Izumo. They could both summon demons, and I had not been particularly worried about them. But I stopped nevertheless.

- Hey, everything alright ?

- Mei ! Shiemi exclaimed. You made it out your dorm ? 

   I agitated my shining tail.

- Yes. Do you need help ?

   I glanced around and hoped to get moving soon. There were hundreds of students whose lives I could still save out there. 

- Don't worry about us, our demons will help, Izumo replied as if reading my thoughts. Go.
