My head was spinning. Maybe it was the fight, maybe it was teleportation. Probably both. But I mostly felt terrible for having suggested this whole thing from the start.

- Are you alright ? I heard behind me.

I emerged my thoughts, turned my head and noticed Mephisto staring at me. I nodded.

- Sure. Listen, I'm sorry. That was my idea.

- Don't be. Without you, I'd be dead by now.

- We should move. Lucifer could come up here.

- He won't. I placed an infernal shield around here as soon as I saw the wall.

I tried to smile, but I could not.

- How are you ? I asked instead.

He revealed his purple heart in a theatrical gesture. Unharmed. I breathed out a huge sigh of relief.

- He didn't manage to touch it. Don't worry, Mephisto added.

- Mephisto... I started.

I almost collapsed. I was exhausted. All this light changing and setting was messing with my head.

- Samael, I continued, I'm glad you're fine. When he attacked, I really thought...

- I like when you call me Samael, he smirked.

- You clown...

I wrapped my arms around him, mostly to stay standing, partly to forget about danger – be it only for a second.

- So apparently... we can beat him this way, I reasoned aloud when Mephisto sat us down in the office's sofa. How can we have an advantage over him ?

- I don't know. In the end, we don't know that much about him... Since the day you were born, I hardly heard from him – I must say I wasn't really interested in him.

- There must be a way.

- There's always a way. We'll find one, Mephisto added while placing an arm around my shoulders.

- You sound like we won't.

- Do I ?

- You're so calm you sound like the calm before the storm.

- That's not me, he sighed. The storm is coming...

We looked out the window. The Academy was still burning ; soon, it would all be memories. Hope was slipping away in blazing smoke.
