Alex's POV

"What the fuck, Alex?!"

"What?" I said, the irritation obvious in my voice. I crossed my arms in utter frustration. Tonight just wasn't my night.

"Why the hell did you take me away from the party?" Calum questioned me. He seemed a lot angrier than I thought he would be. It was only a party. "I was having a really great conversation before you ripped me away!"

"Yeah with some whore," I mumbled so that he couldn't hear me.

"What was that?" He took a step towards me, his head cocked in angry curiosity.

"Nothing," I over-enunciated the word, as if that would prove some point.

"No I definitely heard something."

"Yeah?" I raised my eyebrows. "Well maybe you're deaf too!" As if it were even possible, I got even more infuriated, and my words were laced with hostility. Calum's face burned red with anger at my comment.

"Are you fucking kidding me, Alex?" Calum growled. "I'm blind. What on earth makes you think you can just say something like that?" I didn't respond, instead I breathed heavily, my chest rising up and down as I tried to exhale some of my rage. After I didn't respond Calum spoke again. "Why the fuck did you bring me up here in the first place?" He seemed calmer, but still very intense.

"I just thought it was a better idea for you to be up here," I mumbled softly, but still loud enough for him to hear. I fidgeted with my feet, and suddenly I felt a little girl who was getting yelled at by her parents. However, I was still mad. Not even at Calum really, he just happened to be the unlucky person who received my wrath.

"What? Because I'm blind?" Calum practically screamed. I had never heard him yell before. "Because let me tell you, I am sick and tired of being babied because of my disability." His voice raised at the last word.

"Of course that's not the reason," I told him. How he could even think I would do such a thing was beyond me.

"Then what was the reason?" He asked, a little quieter this time. I didn't answer him, I wasn't sure how. For some reason I just had the overbearing need to pull him away from the party, but I couldn't even explain why. I probably wouldn't have reacted like that if Keegan hadn't pissed me off so much, but I still couldn't think of a valid reason. Something about seeing Calum with that girl just struck fire in me. "Is it because that girl was flirting with me?" He said after my long silence.

"Don't be ridiculous, Calum," I rolled my eyes.

"Am I not allowed to talk to other people?" His voice was raised again, his eyebrows furrowed in anger. "I mean, heaven forbid I have another friend!" Calum waved his hands around dramatically.

"You know what? Fine!" My voice finally raised to the same volume as his, so we were now both shouting. "I was just trying to look out for you. Go back to the party, have the time of your fucking life! But you can find your own way there." For a moment it was like an out of body experience. I could hear my voice, so cold and harsh, yelling these horrible things, but it wasn't me saying them. It was a hidden monster that had crawled out from inside of me, one who didn't show itself often.

"Fine!" He reached out in front of him, completely helpless without a cane or Hercules to guide him. He grabbed at the air desperately trying to find something, but it didn't take longer than a few seconds for him to give up completely. "Can you at least get me to the stairs?" He said softly, sounding embarrassed and frustrated that he had to ask for my help.

"Of course," I sighed. I was mad at him, but I couldn't just not help him. I grabbed his hand and led him all the way back downstairs to the couch, despite him only asking me to take him to the stairs. I watched the girl bring her attention immediately back to Calum, so I just quickly turned around.
