Avenge Her

The Berkian teens were on the dawn of battle. They had traveled to Outcast Island to retrieve Astrid and the Book of Dragons. Astrid came up with a plan to impersonate Heather, a girl who spied on Berk and took the Book of Dragons for the sake of her parents' protection. Although Astrid believed that Heather's backstory was a lie, it was in fact correct. Her island was under siege, and during the siege, Heather's parents had been captured and taken to Outcast Island. Heather had no choice but to do as told. Soon enough, she was caught, but the Berkians still needed the book. So, Astrid put her plan into action.

She sailed to the island dressed as Heather to get the book from Alvin, also finding Heather's parents in the predicament. But now, the teens, along with Heather and her parents, were in the process of escaping. Instead of the somewhat quick and easy escape everyone was expecting, there was a turn of events. Just as Astrid was flying away, Alvin catapulted Savage the Outcast into the air, and Astrid was knocked off of her Deadly Nadder.

"Astrid!" Hiccup yelled in dire panic as his friend tumbled to the ground.

Luckily, Astrid was able to grab onto a branch during her fall, but her hands quickly slid off the branch and her body hit the stone hard ground of Outcast Island. She groaned, holding a palm against her head as her head began to throb. Without warning, she was suddenly grabbed by the arm and hoisted over a man's shoulder: Alvin's.

Hiccup's eyes darted to the scene, and he immediately ran behind on Toothless.

Adrenaline pumped through his body, and the only thing he was focused on was Astrid's safety. If something happened to her, he'd never forgive himself.

Toothless fired multiple plasma blasts, but Alvin managed to dodge each one with ease. Finally, they stopped the chase, but much to Hiccup's dismay, as well as Astrid's, things weren't over yet. Alvin hung Astrid over the cliff face, daring to throw her into the rocky water below. Hiccup knew Alvin wasn't just playing around. He wouldn't hesitate to drop her and let her fall to death, and that thought scared Hiccup more than anything else in the world.

Alvin sneered at Hiccup, danger glinting in his intense eyes, like he was just awaiting the moment where he could kill an innocent. Hiccup shivered.

"Surrender!" Alvin exclaimed. "Or I'll...eheheh, you know the rest."

That one sentence hit Hiccup like an arrow piercing through his heart. Even though Astrid didn't know that he loved her, he was going to risk his own life if needed to keep her alive. He could not let her die. He couldn't. A look of lost hope washed across his face, his emerald eyes wide and full of tears. But then, rage replaced the sadness. His eyebrows were angled down, and a scowl was plastered on his face. He was shaking with anger, his eyes fiery and downright cold. Astrid was going to live, even if that meant killing Alvin himself.

"Do it, bud," Hiccup commanded Toothless. He was ready to see Alvin dead. Sure, Alvin had invaded Berk before and had commited many acts of treachery, but this time, he had crossed the line. Hiccup wanted revenge. He would have it. No one was allowed to murder his love. No one.

Toothless began building up a plasma blast, the purple light growing larger and larger. By then, Astrid had become aware of what Hiccup was planning. Fear and shock hit her. Why was she shocked? Because the choice of killing someone crossed into Hiccup's mind, and that was the last thing she expected him to resort to. Nothing made him that angry. Nothing. That meant Alvin had hit Hiccup at his weakest point. But what his weakest point, the thing that made Hiccup go cold? Astrid, for this one time, did not have the slighest idea.

Astrid struggled to get out of Alvin's grip, but it was almost impossible. She was so focused on escaping that the feeling of sadness didn't wash over her. The only thing her mind was fixated on was determination. She had to get away before she fell to her death, and certaintly before Hiccup made up his mind to kill the traitor in front of him. Yes, Alvin was quite treacherous, since that was part of his name after all, but that didn't give anyone any reason to kill him at all.

Finally, right as Toothless was about to shoot, Astrid saw something in her peripheral vision.

A Monstrous Nightmare. The same one she had befriended when she was acting as Heather at Outcast Island.

"Hiccup!" she called. "Don't shoot!"

Hiccup stared at Astrid with confusion as Toothless distinguished the plasma blast he had building up in his mouth. And suddenly, Hiccup realized why Astrid ordered him to stop.

The Monstrous Nightmare soared upwards, knocking Alvin as well as Astrid to the ground. Astrid finally had the chance to take the Book of Dragons away from Alvin. She rapidly snatched the book before he could get his hands on it, and mounted the multicolored dragon. And within moments, the Monstrous Nightmare, Toothless, Hiccup, and Astrid had flown away into the setting sun, making their way home. Astrid sighed with relief. She made a mental note to thank Hiccup later for saving her, but to also ask what exactly triggered the fire in his eyes...

A/N

Hey! :)

I wrote this one shot based on a post I saw on Tumblr. It was part of the episode of Heather Report Part II when Alvin had captured Astrid and Hiccup was going to save her. It had two pictures of his reactions that I never really noticed before. His first reaction showed the pain and sadness in his eyes, and the second reaction is where his eyes just went cold and he was ready to kill Alvin just to save Astrid.

Not only did I think it would be interesting to write a one shot on this, but I thought those two pictures really showed Hiccup's love for Astrid. He wasn't even able to call her his yet, but he was so protective of her. :') This just shows that he never lost any feelings for her, and that just really impacted me. So, here's a one shot on that!

I hope you enjoyed this. Comment your thoughts!
