Fifteen (almost sixteen) year old Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was spending his Saturday night alone in his room, tidying up the place as he hummed softly. His Night Fury, Toothless, was laying on the stone slab he always slept on. His eyelids were becoming heavier by the minute, and his tired green eyes were about to fall into a deep slumber. Hiccup let his dragon be, knowing that Toothless definitely needed some rest. Defending Berk from Alvin, the Outcasts, and Dagur was not exactly a leisurely stroll; there was a lot to do with strategizing, fighting, and of course, flying.
Hiccup continued on with his humming, soft enough so that he wouldn't disturb Toothless. He picked up the occasional sketch pages of designs he had made back when he worked full-time in the forge, trying to come up with ways to finally catch a dragon and be accepted of the village. Now that he had no use of the "catching dragon contraptions", he decided he would drop them off at the forge later to see if Gobber wanted to turn the sketches into something more usuable that might benefit the village.
After re-folding some of his clothes and tucking them neatly into his dresser, he moved to his mess of a desk. Sketches were scattered everywhere, as well as some miscellaneous items that he had been gathering to use as he upgraded his Gronckle iron shield. He was planning on adding a mini catapult and a crossbow. He hadn't added either of those yet since he was going through the process of trial and error. Hiccup just wanted it to be the best shield he could possibly create it to be, so many hours of hard work would be put into it.
As he collected the miscellaneous items and put them neatly in the corner of his desk, he spotted a drawing. Except, it wasn't a sketch of an invention, it was a sketch of the other Berkian teens. He smiled. Hiccup drew this picture when the Berk Dragon Academy was made official. The academy was made not long after dragons were brought onto Berk, so now that his friends finally had dragons of their own, and they appreciated them instead of wanting them gone, he wanted to remember the moment. He wanted to remember the moment where friendships blossomed, dragons were welcomed, and he finally felt important.
Hiccup's eyes scanned the drawing. There on the tan page was a drawing of Fishlegs, Ruff and Tuff, Snotlout, and Astrid. His eyes lingered on the sketch of Astrid. Just her name made sparks zip down his spine. She may not be his, but he would forever be hers.
Finally, Hiccup gently picked up the drawing after staring at it for a while, feeling satisfied. He set it back on the desk, just simply standing there for a moment. Suddenly, his eyes glimmered and his mouth curved into a grin.
He hurriedly grabbed four tacks, picked up the sketch, and pinned the drawing to an area right above his desk. That way, whenever he worked at his desk, he would be reminded of his friends that always stood by his side.
Even though some of his friends were a bit arrogant, easily scared, and not the sharpest arrows in the quiver, they had been by Hiccup's side when he most needed it.
He stepped back as he admired the sketch of his friends, his lips curving into a smile. After a few moments, he turned to the side, still smiling as he noticed that Toothless had fallen asleep, his scaled body gently rising and falling from his large breaths. Hiccup just watched the dragon, thinking of how blessed he was to have some of the greatest friends in the world.
And he would never trade them for anything the world had to offer.

Wow, I finally write a one shot that's not focused on Hiccstrid. :0 I'm just trying to experiment a bit with what I write.
I've always loved that drawing of the gang. I feel like that's something Hiccup would always treasure. And basically, this just proves that Hiccup drew Astrid at some point, and that makes me happy for some reason. XD #wut
I've got a cold right now, and it's not exactly fun, but oh well. *cue sneeze* I haven't been sick in a while.
I hope you all are doing well! Always feel free to talk to me through PM. I'd love to hear from you or even read your stories.
Love you!
