Some things never change...
But that wasn't the case.
Berk was flourishing and housing New dragons, inventions for the dragons, and inventions because of the dragons, such as the top-of-the-line fire prevention.
Valka was now living with the Berkians, and that was amazing but even she was distressed. The whole village was really. But no one felt more heartache than their chief, Hiccup.
Two years ago, Astrid had been kidnapped in the middle of the night, with no trace of who could've taken her left behind. They had searched and searched for many sleepless nights, and though Hiccup hated to stop, the mission had to be ended. She was gone, and there was nothing anyone could do about it.
Hiccup could never sleep, he rarely ate, and chiefing without any of Astrid's regular help was just downright horrible. Stormfly didn't know what to either. She always waited right in front of Astrid's door, waiting for the girl to come in, but she never did. And things were the same each and every day, but Hiccup could barely take it anymore.
"Son," Valka said, her voice just above a whisper. The two were eating dinner at their home, but Hiccup had barely touched his food. He swirled the fork around the plate, not bothering to even taste but one bite of the meal.
"Son, you need to eat." Again Hiccup ignored her and kept on playing with his food. But finally, Valka gently took the fork away, placed it on her side of the table, and made her son look her right in the eye.
"You need to stay healthy Hiccup. I know it seems as if the world is on your shoulders, but some things you just have to let go-"
"But I can't let go of Astrid!" he shrieked. "Two weeks before the wedding she was captured and no one has seen her since...but I'm going to find her."
"We've been through this before-"
"Yes Mom, I know we have, but I have to try. Or try again at least. Just give me this one last chance."
"Hiccup-" she began, but the twenty two year old Viking already sprinted out the door, whistling for his Night Fury Toothless to come over.
"C'mon bud, let's try this one more time. She never gave up on me, so I'm not giving up on her."
Toothless hummed his understanding and soared into the night sky, the world black, all except for the light shining through the moon and stars. He sighed. The array of constellations and dragon flights made him think of the romantic flights he used to take Astrid on. But he replaced his sorrow with determination, ready to do whatever it takes, risk his life even, just to make sure she was okay. He knew that she was alive for sure, but the question was where did she end up?
°*°*°*°
Thunder boomed in the vast, dark sky, lightning flashing like warning signals. Hiccup had been flying for about two hours. Even though he wanted to keep searching, he couldn't because lightning is attracted to metal, like his leg, and he barely survived the last time he got struck.
"Okay bud, why don't we just go wait out the storm?"
Toothless steadily turned the other direction and went to find an island, but in the blink of an eye, everything was swirling around them.
BOOM!
The lighting had struck Hiccup's leg and Toothless' connecting rod, and the prosthetic tail began to wither rapidly. Soon enough they were hurtling down, but the Viking was suddenly thrown off his dragon as he sailed downwards in the stuffy air.
"TOOTHLESS!" He yelled. "TOOTHLESS!"
The dragon had no control over his direction, and the water was coming closer and closer to him. The seas were raging, the wind howling, and the pitch black sky even blacker. A dark gray cloud hid the light from the moon, and now the Viking and the dragon were uncertain when their death would approach.
